Sale Sharks sit 10th in the Aviva Premiership.
They are hardly "Manchester United" or "Wigan".
They are a decent English top flight club, not in the same caliber as Leicester or Bath .
Cas should no way "bite the bullet" or there will be an exodus from the sport.

He was also a gamble when Cas signed him and this was his first season he really looked like a record breaker (with thanks to Dorn/Gale/Webster). For all anyone knows the club might have been planning to offer him an improved contract/extension next season however when a player comes demanding more cash or they'll walk out on their contract its one way to quickly stop that from happening.





I know the Cas website isn't all singing all dancing however if you believe the Sharks website is professional you're clueless.

Exactly. He was signed as a mediocre winger from a relegated London side on a decent wage. He then had an average/above average 2015 and then signed an extension at the end of that season. Broke a record and turns it into this. I don't care if he wants to leave the club, but he's acting like a spoilt brat.

Diamond's emails & other evidence has shot Sale's position into the gutter & they are screwed.
What is likely to happen now is that Sales top dog legal eagles will say "Oh, F€CK" & advise Sale to settle out of court for an undisclosed sum (most likely to be higher than their best £200k offer but lower than Cas claim of £500k, lets say a middle ground of £300k to £350k).

Furthermore, it is my opinion alone that should this go all the way & Cas lose, all SL Clubs & the RFL as Governing Body should contribute £10k each towards Castleford's legal costs *RFL £50k* should they be that high, as a show of solidarity & force from the RL community.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out if it goes to Court. On the one hand, it may well be decided that an individual cannot be held to a contract if he wishes to retire (i.e. Not to be enslaved). In which case the future for RL could be bleak as this sort of thing could happen all the time. A more nuanced view might be that the two sports are similar enough to suggest retirement was a deliberate act in an endeavour to get round the constraints of a contract freely signed. I am not aware of the facts but believe the latter to be more logical based on what has been posted here. Having said that, pre-Brexit our Courts are influenced by the loonies of Europe.

Haha- absolutely no way will they get away with that one! Tomkins got a fee of 700k and was "performing well" for years, not just a season or two-he will have been earning one of the highest wages in SL at the time. Sale will just point to the fact that Denny was previously playing in the lower leagues and Castleford clearly didn't rate solomona very highly as a player as he was earning just 60k rising to 70k, a much lower wage than many "top" SL players so therefore shouldnt command anything like that size of transfer fee.
They need to hit them for losses and keep the transfer fee realistic.

The difference with Tomkins and Solomona is that Solomona is already "proving" his worth to Union, whereas Tomkins was a "bigger" gamble.
On that basis, surely, his value must be increasing.
I really hope that Sale are taken to the cleaners on this one.

It doesn't matter what his value is now- it matters what his value was then.
Sale will argue that Cas paid him lower wages than other players and so must have valued him lower than other players and the transfer fee asked by Cas should realistically reflect that.
If Cas are paying Hardaker similar wages then they could argue that the transfer fee should be similar.
Also Cas haven't had to pay a transfer fee to Leeds as he is on loan so Sale will try to use that to argue the losses Cas claim they have as a result of having to replace Denny.
It stinks but that's how I see it going.
