| I tip either cas, wakey or salford to take the drop. Most probably one of the yorkshire pair as the powers that be attempt to even up the number of lancs/yorks clubs in SL.

Nope. We both got in in 2008 by being one of the 14 best licence applications. Where we were before that, or how we got there, is irrelevant.

| Quote ="Hatfield tiger"What people dont seem to relaise is that the RFL have said one club will come up if they meet the criteria.
The criteria in the article is simple the criteria they have to meet to apply. That is not the criteria they will be judged upon if they are allowed to apply.
Surly if all the current Super league clubs get at least a C grade (belive to be 4 points) on the license applications then how can they be replaced with a club from the lower league with only three points per say?
That would surly be wrong - would it not.
If say Cas and Wakey get foundations laid on the staduims and start to build then they must have a greater case to stay in Super league than say Widnes who will not have a competitive squad etc and therefore not tick that box on the criteria.
Thats just my view though - could be reading it wrong.'"
You've got that very wrong in my opinion. A Championship Club will be told in March 2011 that they are in (if they fulfil the 5 criteria). Following that decision all other teams have to submit an application by April 2011. So Championship clubs will not be judged on the same criteria as SL clubs unless they apply in the April tranche. I think that will be the RFL get out of jail card to put Toulouse in having granted Widnes a licence in March.

| Quote ="Uptoncat"At the end of the day the game is a farce. It's corrupt, I couldn't care less if I watched a Wakey Cas derby in the middle of a public park. I really really hope we get planning permission, you sort out your funding and get the land from Polar Ford and Pizza Hut for access sorted out and foundations are being dug at both sites before the end of the year. This really would put the cat amongst the pigeons and it would be very interesting to see the powers that be decisions and reasoning behind it. Can't see what more Salford, and especially Quins and Crusaders offer more than us, also Bradford must be on shaky ground and Hull KR with their debts aren't exactly a model club. The decision has probably already been made and is obviously out of our hands, but for me Super League will be worse off without either of us.'"
I could'nt agree with you more mate, but I think that the RFL and SKY are looking for a scapegoat or to shaft a club somewhere's along the line. It should'nt be us or you, if it does happen the game will go backwards and not forward as they think it will.
RFL stick franchise up your ringpiece.

| I don't think this changes anything in the real world - Salford, Wakey and Cas got their franchise last time round on promises of ground improvement or new stadia. Salford of course are confirmed moving, so that leaves Cas and Wakey.
We all knew then that if we were neither in a stadia, or actual tangible building work happening and a road map to completion - we would all be out on our backside and that still stands. So, the equation hasn't changed - with the exception of the brief dalliance over a possible share, then situ now is exactly as was the day after we were granted a franchise.
The only way I think we can stop BOTH clubs being outed in lieu of Toulouse and Widnes is BOTH building a stadium - if neither get theirs built, then I think we could seriously be in danger of losing both from the top flight...... Which is why I think Wakey were too quick to dismiss share discussions and studies, becuase now it is a straight foot race to pour the first concrete. I don't believe the WF economy will support 2 multi million development projects 3 Mway junctions apart in the same year - look at the funding hole and problems finishing the Wakey shopping centre?
So - this is now simply whoever lays a brick first wins in my opinion without bias towards either club.

| We have been paying RW good money (£90K/year by rumour), for the past few years with our 'meeting of the Superleague requirements for 2012' being his primary paid objective. There are now becoming less and less places for him to hide behind uninformative, 're-worded', contradictory or repeat statements.
In 2011 the application will not accept the words 'hoping to make a major announcment!'.
As the fans, we are here basically Sh*tting ourselves about where the axe will fall and whether it will come down to another teams bad luck.....or a bent RFL decision, which will ultimately rule us out or in.
Step forward Mr Wright and tell us what you have done to ensure that we don't find ourselves in such a position! Tell us exactly why (not how we hope) we will be successful.

| All i can say is why is it up to us to develop RL in france by inviting tolouse. I have a nasty thought that the RFL plan to lose both cas and wakey infavour of Tolouse and Widnes
I think in thier minds that in another 3 years time at least they will be able to lose a french team and still have represntation.
I do not understand the RFLs infatuation with taking the game across the length and breadth of this great land
I will be sorry to lose either cas or wakey, I'm afraid its squeaky bum time for the 2 clubs.
I also think its poor that the RFL have issued this statement. Is it to put pressure on those that have not complied fully with last times criteria????

Work will start in Spring according to Waystone and will be opened for the 2012 season. That gives us until the end of January 2012 to complete.
Roughly 44 weeks. Not sure how long it takes to construct a stadium though.

It's taken almost 10 years to get this far.
On a serious note:
Quote the stadium build is a 46 week process. '"
From Wakefield's latest outburst:
wakefieldwildcats.co.uk/2010/08/ ... statement/
Given the groundworks already undertaken at GH, I'd expect ours should be slightly less.
On a separate note, I do wish that Cas & Wakefield could use their press releases to simply relay news on their own developments without the need to constantly bitch about the other's project. It makes us look like a couple of spoilt kids.

| I have just seen this post on the Fev forum thought it was pretty sums up how stupid this whole franchise thing is. I would love Rugby to just be about Rugby again.
I've got a great idea that will change the way the RFL is seen worldwide. Lets invite the 2012 Olympic Committee to follow the way we run Rugby League? This is what we do. We invite athletes from all over the world to come to London and have a knockabout in the new stadiums we have built. After a while we choose say, ten or twelve athletes to go forward to the 'Super Athlete' stage. (These will be chosen by who is wearing the nicest colours). Then, these few selected athletes run up and down a few times. It won't matter who is first or last because the winner will the one who has the best smile on television.
I believe this will bring in 100's of millions of viewers from all over world in the same way that thousands are flocking to watch non-competitive Rugby League. We can invent athletes, anyone even if they have never run before.
This way we will see a lot more sporting disiplines taking part in absolutely pointless sports. We wont have to follow particular atheletes or countries, we wont have to get excited about watching nail biting endings. All we would have to do is sit in front of the television and simply watch.
Seriously though, without competition and fire in the belly to succeed any sport is pointless. Even Primary School sports now have winners and losers in their sports day. Someone, please, at the RFL wake up and make this wonderful game a game worth watching.

Based on the fact Quins have no money, no fans and don't contribute to the competition in terms of top 8 finishes, going head to head on the franchise criteria, Quins are one of the (if not the) weakest teams in the league.

The same can be said of most of SL at some stage. Giants for example perenial under achievers , using you top 8 finished criteria, but now make a go of establishing themselves amongst the SL "Elite". As for no money that goes for most of the SL clubs who survive on the goodwill of deep pocketed owners and board members.
I'm not saysing all at Quins is a bed of roses. It is not. But the same can be said for many of the current SL clubs in regard to finances and stagnant crowd figures.
Whilst the naysayers and myopic amongst the northern supporter base remain so the game will not improve at either local nor imternational level. England and English rugby league will remain in it's current malaise and I would argue in the long term even go backwards. But as long as you got your M62 corridor to travel along tpo play your "local sport for local people" the myopic northern supporter will remain happy. Wont' they?
