I wouldn't say you stuck up for me - you didn't recognise that I wasn't trolling, just said that lots of people on both sides do.
However I will accept that you didn't intend to tar me as one of the trolls and apologise to you.
I would love both Wakey and Cas to be in a stadium such as the Keepmoat! They would need to ban wanyel though.

All friends again!
If we've learnt nothing over the past decade it should be why we come to watch RL; for the ground or the RL.
If like me its the RL then lets stick to that. Although I've dished out my fair share of negative posts over the past 10 years I couldn't care less about it now.
TBH I'm enjoying my RL far too much to worry about stadiums. We may not have had two pennies to rub together at the start of the season but I've enjoyed this season more than most in my 20 odd years of WT support.
Are we architectural pompous snobs or RL fans? I know which I'd prefer to be!
Does anyone else agree with me and Mr Kear? "The only thing things should count are; basic H&S requirements and the quality of RL you produce."- is that such an left-field comment??
Hope your all enjoying the season as much as we are!

And Bonzo, it's not just Asda that will object - the town centre shops will object, as will residents (who wants the equivalent of match day traffic on their doorstep every day? - That's what a superstore will bring), as will the Highways Dept.
Sorry if the truth hurts, but these are the exact same things that every development of this kind have to overcome - and I hope you do!'"
On the contrary, the residents can oppose but the likelihood is that it will actually BENEFIT them.
After all, the whole area down there, Hicksons, Cas ground, the bus depot, Nestle - are all going to redeveloped in the future.
Additionally, with rising petrol costs, a new food store on their DOORSTEP would mean they can walk out their front door for their groceries and save money elsewhere for other things rather than driving to ASDA or having to walk into town and back again with heavy bags of shopping.

But there's no guarantee that it will be a supermarket built down at the ground. It's a FOOD-STORE. It could be a wholesalers like Costco.

To replace an existing supermarket, in a relatively small building for one of their stores too. It still won't meet the demand for the town. Look at Selby - 1/3 the population of Cas, and three times the number of major supermarkets.

Whats truely sad is that numnutts like you just can't respond to debate in a grown-up manner. I have no beef against Cas, I've said before that I like visiting WR and will be sad to see part of our regions RL heritage disappear but that I hope your new stadium gets built.
My observation, in response to Fullys remarks, was based on the fact that supermarkets are essentially hyper-efficient cash extractors and their owners are prepared to pay top dollar for premium sites. I don't know enough about the area to comment on whether this would class as such a site, but if it is then I would expect a fight for it, as market share is king to these businesses - that would be brilliant for Cas. If, however, companies such as Macro or Costco are looking at the site then that would imply that Tesco et al are not interested - Costco cannot match their spending power, and so would only be interested if the site was 'cheap' - not quite so brilliant, but hopefully good enough.
So stop trying to project your insecurities onto me - whether you get your stadium or not has no effect on Trinity, we live or die by our own actions and the RFL's blinkered view of who should be in SL.
Anway, good luck with the stadium and see you in a fortnight. May the best team win - again

Insightful stuff.
Consumer behaviour must be quite differant in your world as traditionally most supermarkets tend to have a steady flow of trade throughout the day, peaking between 12 - 1 and 5-7.
It is unusual at best for around 6000+ shoppers to turn up en masse within a half hour period, do all their shopping and then leave again, almost as one, an hour and a half later. But apart from that, a well thought out point.

Asda in Wakey is well outside the town centre, about 3 miles I think, with good access roads allowing easy access. It is probably just about the ideal location for such a store as regards minimising traffic problems, but despite this it still causes congestion and traffic problems on a weekend - and its a nightmare at bank holidays! Having said that, the supermarkets won't be interested in the site if there are access problems, as this would put customers off, and the planning department/highways are well clued up on this - the anti-supermarket lobby around the country has seen to that!
What it will probably do, being so close to the town centre, is kill off your small local businesses such as greengrocers, newsagents, butchers and your milk deliveries. They will sell anything people want to buy in a convenient 'one stop' location, it will be cheaper than a 'proper' shop and will leave a town centre full of take-aways, hairdressers and poundshops. Is that a bad thing? People choose to buy there, so its difficult to say it is, but its a bloody shame for hard working shopkeepers that have built up a business over many years!

Sadly, that pretty much sums up Cas town centre nowadays anyway. There's only really the market that has any representation of independant traders. I don't think a large food orientated supermarket on Wheldon Road is going to damage business there any more than Asda at Glasshoughton has. The main issue, as many have pointed out, is access. The roundabout at the bottom of the bridge is bad enough on normal weekends - it could be a nightmare without new access points (new bridge and road at the old Wheldale pit?).

Where do I suggest that the traffic will be constantly at match day levels???
Quite clearly I put "the equivalent of match day traffic on their doorstep every DAY".
The biggest problem you have is recognising you have a problem.
Residents want convenient shopping - they don't want a superstore and the associated traffic on theor doorstep.
Also the road infrastructure is inadequate, but hopefully you can overcome these issues.

Council needs to get its act together or town centres will give up on what little life they have left. Free parking and cheaper rates for small shops would be a start.
As for WR, its a pity you can't build your stadium there, with a bit of imagination it would make a fantastic riverside stadium and would actually bring money into the town centre rather than its periphery.

Nope. Planning permission was granted for a Tesco superstore in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire (where I live). Oddly, it's in a similar situation to Wheldon Road (on the site of an old Carpet Factory, nearby some former industrial space surrounded by former industrial housing, no local retail sites and by a river.) The traffic situation in Stourport is much worse than it is down in that area of Castleford, objections were lodged by residents, shopkeepers, the other major Supermarket in the town (Co-Operative), and still planning consent was given.
So I wouldn't write it off just by that type of speculation yet. At the end of the day, if Opus is involved, they must be fairly confident of getting permission. They're in it for business, pure and simple. If they didn't think it was possible to do, they wouldn't have touched it with a bargepole, and they have much, much more experience of these type of projects than most of us.
