| Quote ="casman2"I would be quite happy to add 3-5 more players at this stage to be honest. We don't need a big overhaul of players as we've had many times over the past few years, stability is going to be the key and hopefully the new coach will bring that.'"
Exactly, the team now just needs quality adding so the current players can become good depth - example being add 2 second rowers and your depth becomes Stuart Jones & Martin Aspinwall, that's some good solid backup.
Quote ="wildycat"Where are you getting your info from Gronk, you was wrong about coach, did you sit in the meeting when RW when he said this to the coaches that he will spend up to full cap, but it would come later, you seem to be in the know when your clearly not..'"
The source used for Gentle had actually signed was from a different person, I should have checked the info back before posting it I admit it appears he assumed Gentle being AT the club was because he was signing the deal, he was there for a 2nd interview it turns out - a case of 2 + 2 = 5.
Quite a few people have been saying a number of coaches have turned Cas down because of the wage bill not being at all suitable for the goals apparently stated.
Quote ="MrPhilb"He's not completely wrong, Justin was told he can spend max cap in year 3 and he would be expected to reach a final'"
Someone on the Wakey board I believe it was also said that Wright was telling candidates that the goal is to win the league in 3 years.
But he isn't one for deadlines, at a meeting 3 years ago now he stated:
Full salary cap spent in 2 years (so last season)
Stadium built and playing in 3 years (so this season)
Win the challenge cup in 3 years (semi final so close)
Win the league in 5 years

| I don't quite understand the reaction on here, Millward is a world class coach who given the chance to change things at the club will work wonders - look at his two stints at us and Saints for evidence. We've played some brilliant stuff this year, losing 1 game in the process.
This 'off-field' antics argument is a bit of a no brainer for me, this is way in his past and his media presence on several media outlets can hardly be a bad thing for you can it?

He's FAR from a world class coach.
Bennett & Bellamy are 2 examples of world class coaches, Millward isn't even close.
People are upset because all the good coaches rejected the club so they were left with the LAST option, this dolt.
Quote ="The Leyther"his media presence on several media outlets can hardly be a bad thing for you can it?'"
It can be when he goes off spouting that the club can't be a separate entity in Super League and SHOULD merge with Wakefield, the man knows nothing about the club or town - on top of that he seemingly has major problems with the team and he doesn't think they're good enough to win any games, just see his predictions for confirmation on that.

| Yeah, he isn't world class. There are a fair few SL coaches who are far from world class, and IM isn't even coaching at that level currently.
He obviously comes with high praise from the Leigh fans and that alone has given me enough optimism to be looking forward to what he can do at Cas.

| 2 Grand final wins and 2 Challenge cup final victories......its a disaster
Seriously, he was not my first choice as he is a bit of a "maverick" but the only blot on his record that I can see coaching wise is his stint at Wigan.
Lets just see what happens tomorrow and if it is him lets see what he has to say about where he sees Cas going in the near future and how he plans to make it happen.
Heres hoping!

| He spoke to some of the players yesterday.
Apparently he questioned our defence, as if you cant miss it.
Also he's hoping to keep the production line of youngsters moving along nicely.
So lets se if he's true to his word.

That was certainly his plan for us at Leigh, our team at the minute consists of players from around the area bar the odd exception.

If he gets the players fitter and sort the defence out he will win a lot of doubters over.
The young players coming through are a must as we haven't much to spend have we?

Sort your defence out . Millwards style is if a team scores one, his team will score 2.

| I hope you lot don't get Millward - but can't blame Ian for wanting a Super League job, I mean it's not like we can 'win' promotion. And as for Cas, survival is your annual aim, and you've got that for another 3 years. Don't forget you got RELEGATED (remember that) under Terry Matterson, but eventually he was a 'whisker' from taking you guys to a challenge cup final. So what makes you think that what he achieved at Saints was just down to the squad he had, or he was a 'younger & better' coach back then ? Do you think after a failed stints at Wigan & North Queensland, and coaching in the championship for the past 2 seasons, that is the Ian Millward that you might be getting ?
Who would Cas fans REALLY like as their new coach ???

Brian Noble. Reasons underlined below:
Ian Millward - Top-flight coaching record:
St Helens - Played 95, won 71. Sacked for gross misconduct.
Wigan - Played 12, won 3. Sacked for poor team performance.
North Queensland - Played 14, won 2. Replaced by Neil Henry.
Honours:
2000, 2002 - Grand final winner.
2001, 2004 - Challenge Cup winner.
2001 - World Club Challenge winner.
Brian Noble - Top-flight coaching record.
Bradford - Played 80, won 65. Left to go to Wigan.
Wigan (replacing Millward) - Played 91, won 49. Contract not renewed.
Crusaders - Played 31, won 14.
Great Britain - Played 14, won 6.
Honours:
2001, 2003, 2005 - Grand final winner.
2003 - Challenge Cup winner.
2002, 2004, 2006 - World Club Championship winner.

| Why would anyone not want Ian Millward in charge ?
Only three coaches - Noble, McRae and Tony Smith - have won more SL matches than him and he has also won 2 SL titles, 2 Challenge Cups, the World Club Challenge and now the Northern Rail Cup with the play-offs to come and I wouldn't mind betting he denies Featherstone that.
He'll be as hungry as hell after coaching outside SL and I think he'll prove better for Cas' than Matterson.

Those coaching figures are wrong and I know he did it tough at Wigan but these are the facts:
He took over in May 2005 and won 8 of 15 league and cup matches to the end of that season.
Admittedly, he had a nightmare at the start of the following season (1 win from 9) and that cost him his job.
So, in total he won 9 of 24 games (or 1 in 3) whilst at Wigan.
This season : 26 wins from 28 league and cup games in charge of Leigh - one of the defeats a hotly-disputed 16-22 Cup loss to Catalan.

You kind of answer your own question. If Millward was the only one of the coaches you named available then maybe I'd be happy. As it is, Noble (more SL wins, more consistent, successful at more than one team) was an option. I think Millward has the potential to do better than Matterson, but Noble had the potential to be MUCH better.

The figures were taken from RLP - very rarely are these wrong but apologies if they are. Even so, it's an awful record.

Depends what kind of football you want to watch. Do you still want a 'classy cas' ? I do.
I'd rather watch an Ian Millward-coached side than one of Noble's any day.
Incidentally, Millward's Saints beat Noble's Bulls in the 2001 Cup Final and 2002 Grand Final.
