| Not especially happy but reading the statements from Hull, Cas and Westerman, it's obvious the right decision has been made. Cas were obviously stung by the Shenton saga and lost out on a transfer fee when they could have cashed in and at least learned from that. Now the cash can be put to good use.
My main worry now is who's picture the kids are going to have on their bedroom wall! They've just taken down their Shenton poster and replaced it with a Westerman poster! Who next? Their obviously jinxing the players! Shall I get them to put up a McGoldrick poster?

| I'm actually lost for words, numb, gutted.
Glad I haven't yet bought a season ticket and definitely won't be bothering now.
Best of luck to Joe though - it makes me wonder whether our club has any ambition left.

The good thing about Joe going is that this should mean Widders and Ferres are now going to be used in their natural positions and not as half backs or centres. The thing that worries me is what the future holds when 2 of our young stars want away, this does not bode well for the ambitions of the club on player levels or the coaching staff.

"we discussed the possibility of an extension to Joe's contract with his agent but it was clear he wanted to move on and was no longer 100% committed to Castleford Tigers."
Sorry, but reading the above, the managment have done the best thing for the club.

Having read the story again, you are correct - my initial reaction to it wasn't good and suffice to say I'm still totally gutted he's gone. If the money is going to be used for the stadium then it's fair enough - I've often said that takes priority - but the club really need to press on and get the planning application in as there's no apparent reason for any delay.
I'm concerned that if our youth policy is "the envy of many in Super League," why so many of our talented players ultimately end up elsewhere - this is the source of my concerns regarding the club's ambition. There must be something cultural that drives them away.

Oh yes, the Paul Cooke school of RL professionalism is still going strong in Hull isn't it?
Gutted but it sounds like it may be for the best really...we need the cash and it seems that this is the best time for both him and the club to go. I do worry about the lack of ambition that Cas seem to have on the field with losing home grown players, it some ways it looks like we've decided we're not going to get a franchise so have decided to pull back for the next 3/4 years in order to get the stadium sorted and then start rebuilding. Just hope our crowds can be as patient.

| Think Joe will fit in very well at Hull there will be a few drinking partners there for him Tansey will be loving it, and he will get to go in the famous Weir Bar were the FC players are banned from, Joe was an awesome player a few years ago, but last season was no were to be seen, cant see him been any beta at Fc to be honest, rate Matterson as a coach much more than Agar, us Robins will now have to listen yet again about what them across the river are going to win yet again next season....... oh joy cant wait

| Can't believe any Cas fan has the audacity to be happy with this news considering the relentless hype regarding the genius of this lad on here for the past years.
That said it's shocking practice from Hull who actually had him on their books as a junior. Doesn't say a great deal for their youth system to let him go for nowt and then pay big bucks to get him back.
Westerman is an odd one, left Hull on a whim, signed for Wakey then back tracked on his promise and has now ditched Cas - so probably not the kind of individual you would want in a TEAM.

| Great signing for us and a decent bit of business for your club, given what must have been a very awkward situation. If he's half the success that big Willie has been, he'll be brilliant.
I, and many many other Hull fans, genuinely hope that you sort out your new ground, secure your new franchise and go on to be a successful club !!!
I'm sure that you're all aware that Cas is very much considered to be the "second club" of many of us.

After making a profit in 2009 (including paying our tax bill on time without the use of a begging bowl) and now cashing in on Westerman, the books should look far more healthier than yours.
Wow, Cas have assets (land and a ground without getting the begging bowl out and pointing it in the direction os the council) and cash in the bank. Wakefield have..... a well used begging bowl. Maybe Keith Senior could get you a few quid for it on ebay.

| From reading what has been said, it looks like it has been the best situation for both parties as possible. By the sounds of it, Westy wanted to leave Cas, so to sell the lad 1 year previous of him OOC for such a big sum is good bussiness for you too.
For the record, hope everything gets sorted for you lot, got a lot of time for Cas.

You have not paid your tax bill yet, don't be a fool.
Please allude to us where Wakefields stadium plan differs from you're own.
Both will sell (or have in our case) their ground as part funding or did you casually forget that we to have a land asset, and a bit more valuable than yours as well .
Both are in cahoots with a developer who will provide the land and some funding.
Both developments are guaranteed by the Council with an alternate land security deal, as announced in the press earlier this year.
Both clubs are now on exactly the same footing, so if we have a begging bowl it's identical to yours.
Are you really as stupid as your post suggest or have you been living on the moon

But apt, where have you been for the months prior to the Wakefield outline planning permission anyway? We've all missed your insightful analysis.
As for Westerman, it's undeniable that his talent has stagnated at Cas. Three years being a leading star at such a tender age will do that. It's probably best for him to develop his career at a different club rather than cruise comfortably at Cas. Everyone requires a new challenge at some point, and he still has the potential to be a star, and still has two young player of the year awards to his name.
