Maybe a rebel league, Cas Wakey Fev Widnes Fax KR Leigh Haven etc...Not ideal but I'd rather that then a 'feeder club' status of small teams still=#FF0000 producing class players and then having them robbed by the 'big city slickers''"
How would that change even if it was a ' rebel ' league , they'd still nick your best

This is true, then the R.F.U will try and pinch the best super league players
But is the garden rosy in the top league?, we have yet to have a sell out at wembley for the C.C final, the grand final last year wasn't a sell out,the magic weekend will never sell out while its held in edinburgh and is pretty pointless in my opinion.
We are as far away from beating the aussies as ever. They should be looking into all these rather than cutting the league, maybe they have been listening to jamie peacock abit too much.

| I think the superleague should just have leeds, saints, bradford, wigan, quins, wrexham, cat. as the league is bent in their faver!! and the rest should form there own league based on fairness and how good the team is not the ground or the fan base!! Viva La Revolution

| Quote ="Towns88"I totally agree with everything apart from your final sentiments. How can you enjoy it as much now as you did when Fev were a top flight side? It just seems oh so pointless with no prospects really. Fev were hard done by when Super League first started. 2, if not 3 teams I feel will suffer similar fates should it be a 12 team franchise, because you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be Celtic who are booted out. 10K last night, impressive, it won't last though, yet we'll still hear about this 10K as probably their main argument for keeping them in.
Eventually Super League will probably consist of, Leeds Saints Wigan Bradford Warrington a Hull side a London side, 2 French sides, a Scottish side, a welsh side and possibly 1 out of a further 10-12 sides lusting to be there, the rest can in theory do as they please...Grim.'"
I do enjoy it just the same, the entertainment value is fantastic

| One reason for suggesting a reduction to 12 teams was the top players wanting to play less games. If we cut to 12 teams and all play each other home and away plus the edinburgh fixture then that's 23 rounds. At the minute we play 27 rounds. If the top players are whining about playing 4 extra games per season with the current training and conditioning they get then there is something wrong with them somewhere in my opinion. Maybe we should have a more australian type fixture list where you don't play everyone home and away every year? That would allow more teams into the SL without overloading the fixture list.

| Quote ="Gazemous"The one thing I'm truly worried about is the number of pathways young players have to the top level of the game. We want to encourage youth development and more international quality players, but then reduce the number of positions those youngsters can get experience with...
And the teams that would probably be chopped: Cas, Wakey and Salford, have all provided international players in the last year.'"
If the overseas is cut as it should be, there still wouldn't be enought young players coming through to fill 12 teams, let alone 14.

Yeah and they will all take a reduction in wages to balance the books won't they
Lots a fans have made sacrifices in the current climate to attend games but the players won't take less money for less games will they?
SL needs to EXPAND not contract IMO.

| I agree and if we adopt the current australian idea regarding fixtures(an idea that was in actual fact used in this country many years ago)then we could increase the teams in SL without affecting the number of rounds played that much. If we had a 16 team SL then a team could play 9 of their opponents twice, home and away(18 games)the other six only once either home or away(total 24 games)plus one edinburgh fixture. That's 25 rounds with 16 teams in the SL. Sounds okay to me! The edinburgh fixture list would also be evened up with 4 matches on each day.

How can that even remotely be described as a fair league? It makes a mockery of a competition.

Not that cracking on maths?
If you take that 6 or 7 current overseas players out of the teams, thats a minimum of 84 players out of the competition. If you reduce clubs by 2 then you can take 40 off those 84. Where are we finding the other 44 adequate youngsters to come through? we don't have them now, so why would we in future even if we stayed at 14 clubs, like the other poster suggested?

| the problem is , everyone is brainwashed with the idea that soopo doopa league is the be all and end all. [u its not [/u
rugby league was around before murdochs money and will still be around when the plug is pulled, what we have to worry about is how many clubs have survived after this brainless expansion experiment and how many will bankrupt themselves chasing this dream.
pah to new grounds, pah to expansion
god help rugby league

| Cutting the league back would mean less chance of upsets....like last night
And judging by the posts from other club's supporters they like the David's turning the Goliath's over too.
Besides,at international level did we achieve success when the league was at 12?.
The players at the more successful clubs will always play more games, and thats why they want to be there, playing finals and winning trophies, can't have it both ways ,eh Jamie

| I think the problem is that we want more media coverage for this great game of ours. The media tell us that they'll only get it if we're a national sport (we are at amateur level). I honestly think that the RFL think if they get a team in Superleague from Ireland, Scotland and maybe another Welsh or French team then they'll warrant the coverage.
What they don't seem to care about is the effect of reducing the league to 12 or having teams from outside the traditional areas will have on all of the old teams and the communities that watch them?
I'm also led to believe that the late night kick off times prevent next day tabloid coverage - I think this is a cop out as it doesn't appear to effect the football.

| I completely disagree with the posts in this thread but I can understand peoples opinions.
For the fella who mentioned only 4 extra games it's more to do with the length of the preseason.
People like Peacock are having 3 week preseasons, you can never get proper preparation in that time.
Because the NRL starts in march look at the size Burgess will turn out come kick off time. Imagine a month longer on the weights and on preparation work.
