I'd be gutted if he left. He's one of the few glimmers of hope for Cas fans at the moment. At the same time though I don't think could begrudge him taking an opportunity to further his career.

If I was Matterson or Wright, SHenny, Westy, Owen and Thompson would be the first set of players i would tie in to long term contracts. They are our future and without them we don't have much.

There would also be a good 6 or 7 i would offload too

He totally idolises Shenny - posters, pictures, meeting him after games and on Sports Relief day, even calling himself Michael Shenton for a few weeks last year

It's lads like Shenton, Owen, Huby and Westerman - local boys making it into the team and in with a shout of England honours - that inspire the youngsters to take up the sport, support the team and aspire to play at the level they do. Without this lead from these lads, we run the risk of losing that vital spark which can give the youngsters inspiration and aspiration.

The Boy would be gutted if Shenny left. As would I. That goes for any of the other lads I've mentioned. But we can't blame them, given the current form and the shaky ground we stand on regarding the licence. They can't be blamed for wanting security, a decent wage and a chance of silverware - none of which seem currently achievable at Cas.

For the first time in a fair few years I fear for the future of this club. I can see us missing out on a licence next time around and spending at least 6 years in the national leagues. That's not, in my opinion, where we belong or what we deserve after the years of faith and support we've invested in this club.

Was heavilly rumoured on the wigan board to be in talks with us a few weeks ago. We are looking for a replacement for George Carmont and shenton fits the bill.

It depends if he thinks signing for wigan or saints will increase his chances of success and grow his bank balance.

no disrespect but i cannot see why he would stay at cas whether matterson is replaced or not. i know a few people with very close links at the club and they tell me on a daily basis what a state the club is in. saints will be going through a rebuilding process and shenton will fit the bill, but centre is a spot wigan will be looking to replace in shortly and with the talent of youngsters taking superleague by storm they look to have a bright future competing at the top of super league foe several years to come. only shenton can decide but id be very very surprised if he extended his current contract. the lad is a shining light at the club but if he wants to win things he needs to leave cas. question is, is blind loyalty enough, i think not !!!

Not sure buddy.Goulding's been playing well, they'll probs just stick with him. Ainscough I reckon will be called back in they lose another from their 3/4 line.

Josh Charnley and Iain Thornley are two centres that we have coming through and no doubt will be blooded under Mcguire but this will be a gradual process. Look at how Mcguire uses Mossop, plays a few and then gives him a break. Shenton is an international centre that would fill Carmonts spot very nicely at the end of the season and with the above two mentioned youngsters coming through they would provide good competition for places. We have strength in depth across the park but centre is not one of them. we use bailey and joel tomkins as cover at the moment but bailey is also likely to go at the end of the year so it is an area we need to strengthen. Gleeson doesn't have that much time left so Shenton Charnley and Thornley could cover that position for many years. To be honest though, i think shenton is saints bound !!!

Isn't Shenton a right centre? Wigan already have a right centre in Gleeson. If Gidley leaves Saints then that opens up a right centre spot there.

I'd like to see him go to the NRL.

we had this conversation on the wigan board a few weeks back. a few cas fans came on and said although he had played right centre recently it was only to cover injuries and is actually a left centre. I think he played left centre for england in the four nations as well

Saints currently have no right or left centre so it makes no difference on that part.

Wouldnt mind Westerman coming over to Saints to keep Shenton company too , cant see it though .

While I would love to see a British player of Shenton's talent coming into our side, Shenton is a local lad and I would hate to see our local lads leaving Saints for one of our competitors. So I'm torn on Shenton.

Dont be daft - player move around all the time, all clubs look out for themselves and thats just the way it should be. If Cas cant or dont want to keep hold of a player I would suggest that is an issue for Cas... FWIW I really like Cas and have always enjoyed watching them on TV but as a Saints fans I want your best players !!!
