If the stadium is built and all three clubs - Salford, Cas, Wakey - are in new grounds then Salford have the weakest licence bid. Purely for the fact that currently Cas and Wakey have/are finished/ing above them in the table and have better academy systems etc.

| Quote ="Tricky2309"Is RL not an outdoor participatory sport -given the stadium at newmarket would be available for local finals and there would be additional sports pitches involved.
This whole green belt situation is a joke, its a former pit site that is now used for illegal fly tipping. It is almost certainly going to be re-classified in 2013 anyway. The government won't want to spend money they haven't got on a public enquiry.
The way I see it GH is only ahead of NM because you have outline planning approved. If and I accept its a big if at the moment, planning is approved for NM, then in theory there is no problem to it proceeding. I doubt you would be able to fit all the community facilities planned for newmarket at GH because the footprint for there is not likely to be big enough'"
Yep its a sports facility, i totaly agree and on its own it would probably get the green light, The problem is the 200 acres of indstrial units, That wont be allowed so who is going to pay for a stadium, york court wont do that for nothing will they ?
You certainly have problems, its [url=http://www.wakefieldangryresidents.com/[size=150WAR[/size[/url thats stirring up the hornets nest
Where have they got this info from
Castleford Tigers were willing to support this as a sensible way forward and were prepared to ground share at the location which can best deliver a stadium in time. We understand however, that Wakefield Wildcats, did not responded and until now dragged their heels on the proposals.

| Fully understand your concerns with sharing a stadium but without a new stadium i'm affraid you'll be booted out of Superleague?
My concern for you both is once your sharing a stadium will the next step be to merge? and i know what you'll say to that?
So agreeing to sharing will bring closer a merger between yourselves? That would be my concern.

| The Council and both Cas and Wakey have contacted the RFL to get reassurance that they won't be forced to merge.
I'd rather support Cas in NL1 than merge.

Pleased to hear it
Yes. they've been stirring up the opposition but if the 'facts' they're using have no basis then they will count for nothing in the planning process. Best just to ignore them until they come up with anything substantial. No point in arguing with people like that it just adds fuel to the fire.

| Is there plans for any link or relief roads to be built around the newmarket site?.(i ask this as most Cas fans and away fans would all try and get to the ground via the j30 turnoff of the M62)
There is no rail link there, would the local bus companies run special services there?, or something like a park & ride from the centre of Wakefield?
Is there any facilities being planned around the Newmarket site? Some rugby fans like to have a drink and a bite to eat before the game, especially the ones who would have travelled far)
Finally, the industrial units at the site, due to the economic climate there is alot of units in the whole Wakefield area stood empty, what could the york court units offer potential companies that hasn't already been built?

To be fair if the ground share ever becomes a reality the RFL won't have to force a merger as whichever club would effectively be the 'lodgers' would naturally lose support and cease to exist.

I'm not disputing that a significant amount of what they say is based on fact, but if you give half truths and put a massive negative spin on them, add some imaginative scaremongering and mix in a few things that are clearly untrue then you can make a compelling case for failure of the project.
In reallity there is nothing new (at least that is true) that the developers, community trust, club and swag were not already aware of and yet they are still confident that the project will succeed.
Political will from the WMDC to back the plan and make the project work is what we need now. This is our biggest threat.
As a stanley resident I will be very unhappy if the current project is hijacked and then in 2013, when the site is no longer designated greenbelt, the industrial park is built on the whole site without the benefit of the community sports facilities and planning restrictions currently applicable.
NIMBYs beware of what you wish for!!!
P.S. The local residents cannot use this 'rural' land as it is private property.

to be honest i always thought that one of these teams might not be given a licence anyway if you look at the over potentials
salford ( their gone)
harlequins ( and admit we cannot have a team there you must be joking)
Crusaders ( and admit we cannot have a team there you must be joking)
Caatalans ( and admit we cannot have a team there you must be joking)
What worries me is with both teams having the same stadium the useless gimps in an office might decide to lose both rather than make a decision

| I can understand Wakey fans not wanting to share at Glasshoughton. But Newmarket is a few miles out of Wakefield as well. I live in Wakefield so if the stadium was in Newmarket I wouldn't be as bothered as most Cas fans. My problem is, there are no transport links, the developers aren't going to suddenly build a train station. The access from Wakefield is poor unless you go the long way round (M1 then M62), if you come down Aberford road it will be packed. It's already busy at rush hour, imagine what it's like with 12000 attending a derby. The proposed facilities don't look inviting. I don't fancy spending pre match on an industrial estate, looking at Eddie Stobbart and co drive in and out. At least Glasshoughton has plenty of things to do. Lastly, building more industrial units don't make sense, other than to create jobs. There are plenty of industrial units in Glasshoughton, Normanton, Castleford stood empty. I'm sure Wakefield fans can tell me of similar vacant units in Wakefield.
If Wakefield won't share at Glasshoughton and we won't share at Newmarket then the only way forward is a completely new stadium site.

Hi all. QUick question - I know Trinity have a an 'action group' with regards to their proposed stadium at Newmarket - is their one for the planned Cas stadium at Glasshoughton? I ask because I'm writing an article for Rugby League World magazine on the two proposed grounds, the impact on both clubs, how each is progressing, the WMC ultimatum etc, and would like to talk to a Cas supporters' group (or similar to Wakey's SWAG) for their take on all of this.
If anyone knows the answer, or has any contacts you think would be useful to me, you can PM me or email: ma@mattanniss.com.
Thanks in advance,
Matt Anniss

I'm going to try and get the views of fans across. We don't just want the RFL/SL view in this article. To be honest, we know what they think/say/do - what's more interesting is whats fans groups think IMHO - hence why I'm trying to get in touch with people like the CTSC etc.

I think you will struggle to get a positive view from any fan. Personally I would have to question how sensible the rfl are in basically forcing clubs to build new stadiums during one of the worst recessions in decades! If the RFL want clubs to stretch themselves beyond belief, why don;t they pay for these stadiums themselves.
Castleford are currently in the fortunate position of owning Wheldon Rd, this helps to give the club stability. A luxury they won't have when/if they get the new ground sorted.
The bafoons at the RFL are trying force the game to grow at a rate it simply can't cope with, while selling the games soul and heritage.
We do not need a new ground, yes Wheldon Rd is old and could do with some money spending on it. But it is safe and large enough for the crowds that attend.
Yes we would all love a new stadium, but not at the cost of crippling the club. The RFL need to take a look at themselves and realise what they are asking clubs to do in the current economic climate is simply utter madness!!! Rant over

| Wheldon Rd is one of the top stadiums in the Country. If the railway end had a roof on it would be my 3rd favourite ground behind The Shay and Halton Jones.
Standing on steep terracing with electric atmosphere can't be beat, the RFL are a joke and will never listen to the real fans.
