| Great gesture from him. The Cas fans abusing him don't represent the whole fan base, I hope people realise that. However, he should also try and stop airing his dirty administration laundry on Twitter, along with the cretins who have nothing better to do than yell at someone over the internet. He's not exactly an innocent party here.

| I have already stated, both on here and the Salford message board, that in fact Dr MK is actually very good for the game, and if he attracts more similar businessmen and investment, it will be a godsend for a game that is on the brink of financial breakdown, and in danger of becoming a feeder league for the NRL and god forbid the RFU.
Unfortunately many RL fans, including a lot of ours, have a ee ba gum, ee ecky thump, attitude towards the game and would be happy to see the lowest common denominator prevail. The RFL itself, is run by people not up to the show, and cannot even negotiate adequate TV and sponsorship deals.
I don't go on Twitter, but I have an idea about what has been said. However don't tar all our fans with the same brush. There are many of us, that have the awareness and foresight to realise that for the game to prosper, we need the likes of Dr MK and true professionals to become involved with the game.

I would agree, great touch from the Doctor.
Lets hope he, the trolls on Twitter, all of us started acting with a little more dignity as S.P showed in his later life.

I agree 100% with this Zimmerman. Its just a shame that these idiots on Twitter have nothing else better to do. It seems the only time you hear about such social media sites it is about some sort of abuse someone has received. What ever did we do before Twitter, Facebook etc ? It is just a platform for brain dead idiots and keyboard warriors to give themselves some personal fulfilment. I can bet at least 95% of these people if they came face to face with the doctor would run a mile if he said boo to them. People like that really tug at my short and curlys.

I agree with you on most points, I agree also its a fantastic gesture, but he does seem to bring it on to himself and I actually think he enjoys the attention.
I'm obviously not a keyboard warrior myself, but I have a cheeky look at some of the posts and he defo seems up for it

| I think he's been good for the game - in some parts - but don't agree with some of his points, nor some of his actions, particularly on Twitter.
I think that sometimes he can go too far, needs to be respectful of other clubs and stop trolling trying to get bites.
The blaming of Cas for tapping up Sneyd, allegedly, is one instance given the amount of comments he's put on about Brierley and co. over the past few months.

| Great gesture with the horse but other than that he brings all the abuse on himself. I also don't do twitter but some of his tweets get put on the forum and he comes over as trying to stir it up. Its all right saying we need people like him and i agree we need people with money to invest. However he bought into a club and immediately said he would break the salary cap. We then had his ridiculous golden ticket suggestion and his tweets that the performances weren't good enough and it wouldn't happen again. Surprise surprise its happened again and again and again and they are now 3rd from the bottom when gobby Marwan said he wanted a top 4 finish with a top 6 minimum. He'll never get any respect until he earns it and that doesn't mean throwing money about and trying to buy friends. Perhaps he could take some lessons in dignity from Jack Fulton.

He didn't. This is a meme that just won't die. He said that if other clubs are using methods to get around the salary cap, he will use the same methods so his club aren't unfairly disadvantaged. He didn't just blurt out that he's intending to break the salary cap.
Quote ="newgroundb4wakey"...We then had his ridiculous golden ticket suggestion...'"
What was ridiculous about it? It's intention is to help SL keep its top players (how many of the England team in the RLWC don't play in England?) and to enhance the competition.
Quote ="newgroundb4wakey"...and his tweets that the performances weren't good enough...'"
They weren't good enough. Why does him tweeting that bother you? Are you suggesting the players didn't know their performances weren't good enough?

So he's got ambition. Why is that a problem for you? [iAll[/i club chairmen should be saying they want a top 4 finish. Why do we, as a sport, think mediocrity is the best we can expect?

Didn't he buy the horse several months ago and was waiting for the right race to put the horse in or have I got it wrong ? Anyway - good on him and it's nice to see his heart is in the right place with what he has done in donating the money to the Steve Prescott foundation.

Because he showed his lack of knowledge of rugby league if he thought he could finish in the top 4 with that collection of mercenaries. And he deffo said he would break the salary cap, in other words he'll cheat if he has to. Did any one actually agree with the golden ticket? I think some of the more respected super league club owners/chairmen poured scorn on it. The salary cap was brought in to make super league a fair competition not for people like the doctor to try and buy success. he knew the rules when he bought the club then within months of coming into rugby league he's wanting to change the rules to suit himself.

Your argument seems to have changed from him [iwanting[/i a top 4 finish to now thinking he would get one. He was right to want one. He was wrong to think he would get one with that squad. He's learning. Is that a crime?
Quote ="newgroundb4wakey"And he deffo said he would break the salary cap, in other words he'll cheat if he has to.'"
He 'deffo' didn't say that. I was in the room when he said what he said. Were you? I've told you what he said.
Quote ="newgroundb4wakey"Did any one actually agree with the golden ticket? I think some of the more respected super league club owners/chairmen poured scorn on it.'"
It was voted out 7-5 with 2 absentees, if I remember rightly. Sounds to me like some people [idid[/i agree with it. Perhaps you need to go and express your angst on the forums of the following clubs: Salford (ah, forget that one, you already do), Wigan, Warrington, Widnes and Leeds. They're the ones who voted in favour. The other chairmen are, presumably, the 'respected' ones, and I guess their respect comes entirely from agreeing with you over the golden ticket. Careful with Eamonn McManus. He said he agreed with it in principle, but thought the timing was wrong.
Quote ="newgroundb4wakey"The salary cap was brought in to make super league a fair competition not for people like the doctor to try and buy success. he knew the rules when he bought the club then within months of coming into rugby league he's wanting to change the rules to suit himself.'"
I don't have a problem with the salary cap, but it's surely set too low. We're losing our best players to the NRL and to RU. The golden ticket idea was a way of, yes, allowing him to spend more on his squad, but also to allow other clubs to obtain funds by selling their golden tickets. It might not be perfect, but at least he's suggesting [isomething[/i to address the slow trickle of players out of SL. Why is that a bad thing?

| Careful RJ, you're in danger of sounding reasonable and knowledgeable on your chosen subject. Something that NGBW has yet to grasp when dealing with anything outside of the confines of Castleford.
I particularly like the fact that most RL fans are critical or dislike MK's use of social media. The irony being that it's them that choose to follow him and see his tweets, when all they have to do if they don't like it is not follow him.

I will when you make some valid points.
Besides, there's no point in me repeating what Red John already wrote in reply. I wasn't being sarcastic, just truthful. You are poorly informed when dealing with most things relating to Salford. You debate poorly and with open bias instead of making pertinent points you resort to petty sarcasm and poorly constructed digs. The rest of my post was a comment about Twitter users which never referenced you or Cas at any point.
If you'd like me to actually be pathetically sarcastic I can give it a try for you if you want?

He must have made thousands of tweets so it shouldn't be hard for you to find a couple.

Your avoidance skills are admirable.
It's called repetition. I shouldn't need to repeat someone else's cognitive response to your dribble. I notice that you have zoomed onto me, as you always seem to do rather than reply to RJ. I suppose it's easier for you.
I don't see how telling you that you have no clue with most things Salford related (A truthful statement) and that you debate poorly and with bias (Another truthful statement as evidenced numerous times in this thread alone) constitutes Pathetic sarcasm (Your quote) or hiding behind someone elses post.
As for Twitter...
First Football and now Cricket.
Rugby League is the game to follow . At least we got to the Semi finals of the World Cup
Due to an injury, Duke of Clarence will not run in the Northumberland plate on Saturday. He is out for the rest of the flat season
Made an entry for "Steve Prescott" to run at Chester on Saturday. Will see how he is before we decide to run him again so soon . Class horse
Mason and Kevin should make their home debut against Hull on 12th of July. Tickets are on sale from tomorrow and We need your support
Remember the days in which other clubs came in and took our best young talent.
No one cared for Salford then.
We are no longer the hunted
Would like to thank our Coach, Iestyn Harris and our CEO @mart_vickers for all of the hard work in securing the services of recent signings
Kevin Locke got his Visa . Hoping to be here within the next 10 days
I dreamt last night that the salary cap was increased. I have just realised, it was only a dream and cannot carry on signing more players !!
Delighted that Mason Caton-Brown will be joining us immediately . Another very talented young player into our squad.
Well done to Warrington today
I have a slow horse that is unlikely to ever win a race . I need someone's permission to name it after them. Maybe my mate Nigel will
Awesome and very emotional win by Steve Prescott .
I hope "Steve Prescott" runs a big race and comes home safe.
Not long before we visit Cas. Looking forward to going there and let's all just enjoy the game. Hopefully we go there having beaten the Wire
This is the ideal time to convert suffering football fans to Watching a decent, passionate sport called RUGBY LEAGUEX
Those are the last Tweets made by MK going back to June 19th according to his twitter page at the time I've typed this. I don't know about you, but I don't see many tweets designed to aggravate and wind fans up. I have not cherry-picked here either. These are in order going back just under a week. While he does have banter with many fans, it's the lunatics trying to wind him up that have the loudest voice, and it isn't always a sensible one.
So even though I've answered your side-stepping question, which I shouldn't have bothered with, you again make no valid points and answer nothing. I await your next post of gibberish and poorly thought out side stepping.

It's not a question of taking the high road, or becoming blinkered. What he says and does on Twitter is his business and whatever I think about it wont have any bearing on things. He loves the banter and whether that's a good thing or not is not for me to judge. Like I said it wouldn't make any difference anyway. I suppose the moral of the story is not to follow him on Twitter, which seems to me to be a platform for ass-hats to make themselves look like chimps. But that's just my opinion. The idea of being interested in someone enough to get what they say pumped into your living room, then complaining about it seems like idiocy to me.
People seem to be angry over things that they really shouldn't be getting angry about. After all, to us fans, this is our hobby our pastime.

OK. I'll make this my last post on this thread, because I'm sure Castleford fans don't particularly want to read about Marwan (although they can't stay away from him on Twitter ).
It's ironic you should accuse The Butcher of 'hiding behind my skirt (!)' when you avoid any of the points I raised. Your first reply was really just to say what you'd already said, and thereafter you've focused on some perceived insult rather than dealing with the issues. This is your [imodus operandi[/i. It's the way you operate over on the Salford forum too: when the going gets tough, the not-so-tough use avoidance tactics.
The problem I have is that this last year or so has really opened my eyes to just how bloody childish some followers of our sport are. For some reason, we've elicited the ire of a handful of fans from three clubs: Warrington, Castleford and Widnes. At one end of the scale, Warrington fans like to make things up about Salford/Marwan, don't bother to check their facts and then whine about what they've made up. (As an example only the other day, one 'expert' on their forum was telling everyone how Marwan would just blurt out details of any signings on Twitter. This was pretty much on the day Salford announced that the Swinton head coach Ian Watson would be leaving Swinton to take up the assistant coaching role at Salford, a deal that had been agreed the previous week but which both clubs had kept quiet at the request of Swinton so their preparation for that weekend's match wasn't affected.) Widnes fans tend to play some kind of Postman's Knock, where they shout some puerile abuse (usually badly spelt, like '[iyour[/i crap', or '[ithere[/i never gonna win anything) and then run away. Cas fans are somewhere in the middle (and it was good to see one of your fans drag one Postman's Knock numpty back to his own forum last week). You personally prefer the make-things-up-and-then-get-upset-about-it method. How difficult would it have been to check how many clubs supported the golden ticket idea? It took me literally 10 seconds to search it out on Google. You chose not to, because you just know you're right.
We don't get this from other clubs. There's a thread on the Huddersfield forum concerning a rumoured swap deal involving Marc Sneyd and Shaun Lunt. The only childish contribution - complete with predictable variation on Marwan's name - is from you: the man with the petty user name who wants to lecture us about acting with dignity. (Just as an aside, didn't you tell us over on the Salford forum that you're in your 60s? If so, do you think there'll ever come a time when name calling would be beneath you?)
Ah well. I notice you've now diverted your anger towards Marwan on Twitter. I can't comment on that because, like yourself, I'm not on Twitter. From the limited amount I get to see, some of the replies he gets are just puerile, and, sadly, it seems it's often from Cas fans. Maybe it was always about Twitter. Or maybe not. He's only been on Twitter for a few months. Are you suggesting that if we went back far enough - back to his pre-Twitter days - this forum would be full of 'oh, that Marwan, he's a card. I might not agree with him, but he's never caused me a problem'? I haven't checked the facts (call me a Warrington fan) but I'm guessing things weren't like that.
I'm not saying everyone should worship at the altar of the great Marwan. I fully appreciate people have a whole range of opinions. It would just be nice if they were based on something concrete occasionally.
As I say, I'm not going to post any more on this thread. If you want to continue this debate (if that's what you could call it), you know where I am. I'll leave you with this. I know we're not supposed to post YouTube links, but it's via the Steve Prescott Foundation. It's Marwan, being the ogre you know him to be. Can't quite see how him attending a Jack Fulton dignity masterclass could make this more moving.

It's unprofessional, and I don't know why Salford fans have suddenly taken the high road in these past few months - has he bought you guys some blinkers too?

"BD", Although the Dr made a couple of tweets in the past that were constructed in a manner that irritated a few fans of a Yorkshire club who are having a tremendous (and might I add, extremely well deserved and thoroughly enjoyable to see) season, 99.999999999% of his tweets bear no relevance to any other SL side or support.
If you go back into the link you shared, you will find for example, that an innocent tweet about a horse then seems to attract replies that bear no relevance to the original tweet, but nasty, spite filled poop from "so called" RL fans...
Firstly - Do people really have to have a go about his involvement with SL at every opportunity?
Secondly - Why do some people then go viral on forums spouting that the Dr has said this and that about a certain subject, when it is them who are spouting, just for a response and it es them off when he is as civil as any human can be when confronted with crap?
Banter is good, however, there is a line and fortunately, the Dr knows where that line is... Unfortunately, too many keyboard warriors do not!!!!!

| Quote ="Red John"OK. I'll make this my last post on this thread, because I'm sure Castleford fans don't particularly want to read about Marwan (although they can't stay away from him on Twitter
).

| Quote ="TheButcher"Your avoidance skills are admirable.
'"
I don't think i've ever professed to be a good debater (unlike you) Rugby league tends to be followed by the working classes who just enjoy coming on these forums but not joining the Cambridge union. Even though i'm not a good debater i never sink to the level that you do with the puerile rants against any opposition fans that dare to come on the scarlet turkey with negative views. Red John says thats his final word so its no good shouting for his help again. You'll just have to struggle on alone

| I don't know about been a good debater but i'm sure he is more of a frequent debater. someone who likes to debate quite a lot - AKA a mass-debater.
