| What with all the ground issues between Cas & Wakey re: Super League survival, might we both survive anyway with Widnes replacing the Crusaders?
I have no doubt the RFL will do anything/everything within its power to prevent this, but the situation may become untenable:
Less than two years ago they almost went bust and broke all kinds of employment laws.
Now they are being investigated over long-term non-payment into player-pension-funds - plus the strong rumour of a winding-up order any day now.
This has to be the worst run club in the history of Super League - if the latest problems come to fruition then I don't see how any other club should lose a Franchise.
For the record - I'm all for expansion in the sport and accept that certain types of extra support towards such initiatives are inevitable but surely such lattitude must have its limits.

| I think it's worth pointing out that the pensions issue and HMRC claims also relate to the previous regime. Unfortunately the current bunch are still cleaning up Leighton Samuels' mess.

I'm sure the article I read on the subject mentioned there was also an issue with the current lot as far as pensions are concerned.
....when the new owners took over, it all started again. So, an amount of money from the previous club and this club has not been put in.
"The pension provider needs the relevant paperwork and despite many requests they have not completed it. There is all this money, no-one knows where it has gone.
"We don't know the exact amount - it varies from player to player - but it is considerable.
"Our solicitors issued them with a threat of legal proceedings. They contacted the solicitors and asked for three-week delay while they tried to restructure their finances.
"The three weeks was up last week, so we are going onto the next stage."
The players concerned should have had an agreed amount from their salaries paid into offshore pension funds but the union say these monies have gone missing.

The article doesn't look good does it?
I am concerned about the comment from the RFL and the "plot our way through the difficulties" (or words to that effect).
Im pretty certain they will get help from Red Hall again and they, along with the current Celtic owners will hang all of this around Leighton Samuel's neck and will continue on.

www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/no ... gue-future
Unbelievable.
If they go into administration they'll probably suffer a 6pt deduction next season but if they then get their affairs back in order the RFL will ensure that they still have a Super League future!
The rules for franchises were always a joke but they're now on the verge of making our beloved game a pointless completley contrived waste of time.

Didnt think id get to say this so soon but ........................................................ TOLD YA SO, 3 YEARS AGO
The game bears more of a resemblance to a sporting entertainment like the wrestling than a pure sport. Promotion and relegation has to return before its too late to save the game

| Lots of rumours going round to this effect
Rumour is that the RL have contacted all SL clubs advising that Crusaders will go into administration. RL want SL clubs to allow this to happen on the understanding that Crusaders will be allowed to continue in SL next season and be given a guarantee of a 3 year licence from 2012.
Clubs not happy and are demanding an EGM

| Not looking good for them, i hope they can come out of the other side of this as we really need a welsh team in sl (though a stronger one with welsh players is whats really needed) wont make any differance to us though even with us having better crowds, youth, finances and higher average league finish the rfl would still choose them over us.
Might come in handy if they have players jumping ship though, wouldnt mind witt, scitofscke (sp) lupton, kear, o'hara or hanbury.

This is what worries me. There's a chance they may be allowed to keep their place at our expense next year and the thought of that is just absolutely scandalous.

I sent the following mail to the RFL and mr Blake Solly yesterday and surprise surprise, they have forgotten to answer. If anyone else would like to have a go at emailing red hall, the addresses are........... reception@rfl.uk.com and blake.solly@rfl.uk.com.
Blake Solly is the compliance officer at the RFL and should be in a position to answer your emails
good luck
With the news that the Crusaders are going into admin. and a new company is to be formed, does that company have a franchise for next season and which well run club will be stuffed by the RFL at the next round of franchises to make room for this poor business model. If I were the chairman of one of the 'less favoured ' clubs I would already have solicitors looking at this matter.
Even the RFL cant say that this is 'openness and fairness' in practise.
For the sake of the game get rid of these leeching clubs (crus and quins) and lets get back to being a real sport with promotion and relegation.
As the situation has moved on and the crusaders are looking at reforming as a new company, will they have a franchise for next season ? If so, could you please explain the ruling on that one, because Widnes were not allowed into Superleague because they went into administration. Will the new company have to apply for a franchise at the next round or will they be assured of a place at the top table as the previous crusaders were ?
I await your reply

| A post from total RL forum on the subject:-
Word on the street is that with Lewis and Wood in Aus,Rimmer is in charge. Rumour is that Rimmer contacted all 13 shareholders of our SL ( ie all the clubs except Crusaders ) and informed them that Crusaders would be going into adminstration, but that a new company was set up to carry on the franchise in Wales, debt free. ( gets rid of the image rights tax bill that all other clubs will have to pay sooner or later ). Rimmer asked for feed back 11 clubs responded in a negative manner ( Leeds and Hull , the two Hetheringtons are guests of RL in Aus ). Rimmer apparently ignored the feed back and is forcing it through. The 11 clubs wanted an EGM, Rimmer apparently refused this request.
I am also told that expansion clubs do not have to re apply for a SL licence so there is no way that Quins, Catalans or Crusaders : in what ever guise, will be refused a licence.
The peasants ( heartland clubs ) are in the mood for revolt.
Am also told that Widnes have attended all SL meetings this year, suggests they have been given the nod.

| It's quite obvious to everyone that Crusaders overspent last season, now they have gone into administration.
I believe Cas were denied a rightful play off place, as a result of Crusaders overspending (signing players such as Sammut that they had no right to) and whilst I know we obviously can't retrospectively take part in the play off's now they are over, we should be given any prize money associated with 8th place, also (and more importantly) receive the tick in the box we would have received after getting a play off place for a second successive season.
Once again, we are the victims of such an issue, the Crusaders club should be penalised in both the 2010 and 2011 seasons, as was the case with Melbourne Storm down under and of course in another sport, Leeds United.

Why not just engrave Castlefords name on the 2011 Super League Trophy and have done with it. Why bother wasting time and energy actually playing and winning games to qualify for the play-offs.
Just for the record, if we hadn't signed Sammut, Bradford would probably finished eighth.
