| Plus it doesnt matter to us whether Opus get a supermarket chain for the development or not. All that matters to us is if we get planning permission for the development.

| I think people need to be aware of what stage the club are at with the sale/development of wheldon rd.
Cas have enlisted the help of a company (opus) to try and secure planning and market the development/site to the supermarket industry.
No plans are in place or lodged and there is no current interest from any supermarket chain with regard to buying the land.
the whole 50million quid talk is pure speculation and spin.
Its similar to me saying to an estate agent "ive got this land with no planning permission , get me £50million for it "

The £50m is the cost of the WHOLE project including stadium at Glasshoughton not speculation or spin.
As for no Supermarket being interested, there's 2 actually Although that doesn't matter because once OPUS have planning permission they will be handing over the cheque to Cas for the price of the land (enough to cover the entire stadium build and a bit more).

PP won't be straightforward! Asda will object, town centre shops may object, Highways Agency will object (though their's will perhaps be relatively easy to accommodate), and local residents may object.
Could even go to PI.

| I can't imagine a town-centre depot, when Castleford, and indeed the planned Newmarket warehousing site, sits on the crossroads of the major North-South/East West road networks.

I don't know. Do you? Honestly?
Show us a link to the depot claim. I imagine it won't be to the article where RW talks about getting change of use to retail?
I would imagine it is much harder to get PP for an industrial base, than retail, given the area it is located in. Industrial land is much less valuable than retail too.
Also, with lots of warehousing stood free around the area...

If Tesco is the supermarket who takes the site (assuming it's an "Extra" store that gets PP) it's quite reasonable that the investment value will be in the £35m to £50m bracket.
Within that the land may get the club about £5m plus a share of the investment value of the completed development (another £10m or so). Given that this is what will pay for GH I doubt you'll see much actually going into the club's coffers as hard cash, but you'll still have the benefit of a strong asset base on the balance sheet.

| Dboy you are worse than Lister for trolling the Cas board. . . both sets of fans will dream and hope with the majority hoping neither will fail!! You on the other hand seem to take great pleasure from picking apart the Castleford development, are you Richard Wright's love child cast off at birth . . .

There are more than enough who seem to delight in this in terms of Wakefield's development.
Mutual support should have been the line BOTH clubs take.
Both our franchise applications should have been 2 part IMO. The first focusing on what we each bring to SL individually, with the second focusing around how we each contribute to something bigger than either of our individual parts. The derby games between us produce a buzz around the region (you can already feel it this morning!), it's this buzz that fuels the regions desire for the game (pro and amateur). Losing the WT v CT derby games will be a big loss to the sport and the region.
I dare say on our part the line of mutual support would have been a lot more likely from AG than a Richardson. I couldn't imagine AG coming on the pitch to bag CT- he sticks to twitter!!!

ASDA can object all they like, the fact of it is, as the only current major supermarket in Castleford, their store is simply not big enough to cope with the demand and shopping there is a complete nightmare. The town desperately needs another major store.

Little 'un, you G Price fan club need to learn to read!
No-where I have "delighted" in the potential problems faced by Cas, I have simply given an honest and realistic view on the process ahead.
For the record I hope they do get a ground - that doesn't mean that burrying your head in the sand and pretending it will be straight forward, will make it any more likely to happen.
And Bonzo, it's not just Asda that will object - the town centre shops will object, as will residents (who wants the equivalent of match day traffic on their doorstep every day? - That's what a superstore will bring), as will the Highways Dept.
Sorry if the truth hurts, but these are the exact same things that every development of this kind have to overcome - and I hope you do!

No sir I believe it's you that needs to read. I was sticking up for you by countering with the fact that historically there have been people in both camps who prey for failure with their nearest and dearest.
Last time I stick up for you old pal!
A word of advice; Just leave it. What will be will be. Stick to worrying about your own club.
