The Tigers are delighted to announce that Head Coach Terry Matterson has agreed a new 2-year deal with the club.

The former Brisbane and London Broncos playing star is currently in his fourth year at the club having taken over the reins after the clubs promotion from the National League in 2006. With very little time to assemble a squad, the Tigers were relegated at the end of that season but won an immediate return and with the successful licence bid have been able to move forward over the past two seasons. And whilst the team’s recent form has dipped a little, it is widely accepted that major strides have been made this season under Terry’s stewardship.

I hope we can start seeing some signings made for next season, I have to say it is worrying that we haven't announced any new signings for next year.

I'm not saying we have to go overboard and try and mask the current problems (ala Hull FC) but one or two to bolster the squad would be nice!

Plus we need cover for Shifty when he is no doubt injured again

Poor, Cas need better if they want to be challenging for silverware.

2 or 3 TOP signings have to be made for next season or the same will happen as this season.

I've brought this up before - I'd like us to get Mark Aston on board.

He could learn the SL ropes under Terry for a couple of years and then be given a go (a bit like Hull did with Agar - only hopefully with more success!).

Aston has done a remarkable job with Sheffield and I think that his motivational skills and drive could also have an immediate impact as well as a long-term one.

I just can't honestly see why people rate Matterson as a coach, and I've said that for years not just since the bad run of form.

I doubt Mark Aston would ever leave Sheffield Eagles ever again.

Maybe because after the relegation we are improving season on season, he is not afraid to put the younger players in, has made some astute signings and most importantly he is not Paul Cullen



There are better coaches out there and quite a few a lot worse, let us have some stability at the club and see where we are at the next round of franchises.

But the likes of sargent, chase, sherwin etc have been great players and i've been supriseed at how well netherton, feather, evans, jones and widders have done.
