A very pleasing signing, however it does make me worry about Branighan leaving. I doubt Jones has signed just to play 2nd fiddle to Branighan and Black, plus with all the rumours flying about, no matter how far fetched, it does make me wonder whether Jones has been signed to fill the gap of a departing half-back.

Well according to Blacks and Branno's facebook comments to each other i dont think branno yet has a deal, as black was asking him the other day if anything was sorted out yet. ( other than the banter about him becoming a Knight and Black going under the wing of Bomber Mcrae ).

If he has priced himself out of the market though then his loss, I think he is a Fantastic player, However there is probably some rough diamonds out there too that could learn to do a similar job for much less money.
Seeing as though we were operating above £300k last year something had to give, Branno, Gene etc would have been big chunks, Also Aizue as it says in his contract ( according to him ) if he can get better deal then he is fine to end the contract early.

Last year due to signing players before the RFL moved the goalposts it was a £400k cap which we used and then got dispensation along with a few others, Less the 6 figure sum of £100,000 equals the current salary cap of £300,000.

Its still as basic as it was when i did my GCSE's Take one figure, subtract the other = answer !

£400,000 - £100,000 = £300,000

The reason we can get these players coming is Martin Hall. True player magnet !

Both had Super League at one time, dropped down to lower levels (Finn @ Dewsbury, Jones @ Keighley) then up to Championship Title Hopefuls

We don't have a money-bags backer to build a yoof team for the future. What we have is a dedicated Board who put a Championship winning side on the park. I do have to mention though that J20 is correct in one of his other posts where he says Michael Steele had said that we wernt operating anywhere near the salary cap so the planned cuts wouldnt affect us anyway. It was a story that was printed in the Courier and carried quotes from our Chairman.

It did and then the week after they also published another article saying we were above the £300k cap becuase we had signed players before the RFL brought the cap down.

It's Steele that needs to get it right, or the courier.

Yes can see why every player would love to sign for him...erm... Don't get me wrong the lure of Halufax's very strong side and good rugby also loacal to some (Gannnon) may shave a few quid off salary but be realistic in our league for players wages a couple if hundred quid makes more of a difference so to believe you get players for much less than others offer is a tad naive you must admit?

We could plough our money into a yoof squad - no doubt. We could also finish in mediocre league positions as a result - much like Widnes. Simple fact is though - Widnes are nailed on for SL - Fax will never be this - without some heavy backing behind them.
