Thats the thing they read the post, lock the thread, and leave the post. It really is pretty easy to just delete the post.

So much on some of these threads that I'd delete the thread.

i would alert the person concerned by the libel comments and advise them to take action against the person who wrote it (giving details to them who it is)

That's the point - the owners of the forum are liable as well as the folk who posted the comments.
