Age has nothing to do with it. It wouldn't matter to me if a guy was 70 if he had been continuously involved with the game in a coaching capacity, had a good reputation and had moved with the times which I don't believe Mal has.

I should perhaps add that I'm 63 myself.

I spoke to Murph at our Heritage Game on Saturday , mind and views still very sharp and forthright , not coached in the Game for many years , but for me could still advise a young and up and coming Coach .

If he got us into the Qualifiers (top 4 next year), and then top 3 (or 4th/5th and win the playoff match), then I think we could certainly afford him! Make it a performance related bonus deal based on those two criteria. Whether he'd go for it is perhaps another matter, as he'd need to be convinced of the ambition and resources available to him.

I don't know about Matty the coach but I wish we had that team now, so many x factor players in their prime at the same time, Penky, Blacky, Shaddy and the resty, everyone with a Y in their name seemed to play well really.
