I agree, A contract is a Contract, If i was Steele, i would leave it be, You never know when we might want to buy some more players from sheffield, they might not look to kindly in future if we try this one. Also as well as Barlow has played this year, i would not like to see him lose his disciplin on the pitch 'cause of Sheff players niggling at him and ending up losing a man.

Maybe the club should post on here the bit in the contract which is relevant to this issue. A few of us could look through it and see if there is a loophole. Afterall do we trust the admin at the club to explore every avenue?

I dont think well have time to create a Bosman'esc new european legislation on employment and personal rights in RL, strictly speaking, a contract isnt a contract if it infringes upon Barlows rights to make a living in a legal manner for his employer, but as i said i dont think we have the stomach to push anything on this, or the time, i certainly think these kind of clauses are not fair on players/workers though and i have heard of them being overturned in other workplaces.
Clauses which stop people playing rugby like this should be removed from the game IMO. He is not a Sheffield player, Sheffield should have no rights to determine how he works for his new employer, i dont beleive the data protection act or official secrets act are hugely important in Championship one as far as matters on the pitch go.

Sheffield didn't have to release him from his contract. I would imagine any agreement wouldnt be in any paper work.

lol made me laugh that. I also agree Aston has a huge chip on his shoulder in a Peter Roe-esque fashion against Halifax. I respect what he has done for Sheffield but still think he can be an @rse.

as someone already metioned it's "restraint of trade" if Barlow can't play in the playoffs.

If his pay for the restraint is low then the restraint doesn't stand up, if it's significant then it does, imagine it would be low so I would play him!
