Duffy was considered to be a substitute when he was sent off, so you are allowed to still have 13 men on the field but only 3 subs.

Now proven to have sent off incorrectly....some people still don't understand I see, or maybe they just don't want to (eh FM). Sent off as a sub thus reducing the bench to 3 replacements. It is not an offence which affects the team, just the player hence McConnell being given permission by the referee to retake the field.

Their complaints were about the 14 men and that player playing a part in the winning try. Read the disciplinary report and it covers both the Duffy incident and mentions the 14 players which actually had nothing to do with Duffys red card. So it has been dealt with. End of.

I think I'll write to the RFL, requesting them to suspend Duffy for life, (and McConnell - he was involved in the treachery too) deduct 30 points from Leigh, fine them £100k, ban all Leigh staff from the technical area, and sales of lobby within a 10 mile radius of Leigh.

It might be wrong, but it should go some way towards satisfying all those fans who didn't actually see the so-called incident at Whitehaven!!!

As for still having thirteen on the pitch, after Duff's dismissal, that surprised me too. However, after a deal of soul-searching, I have almost come to the unpalatable conclusion that the ref. may just have known the rules!!

Cut the sarcasm DUK. All anyone wanted was clarification. I'm sure that if this had happened to any team bar Leigh you would feel the same way. You have to admit that it is a fairly unusual set of circumstances. Firstly, I don't ever remember a sub being sent off before when he's not actually on the field (although Duffy was, wasn't he?) and, secondly, could you point me at the rule which says, if this should happen, that it doesn't reduce the number of players allowed to be on the field at any given time.

It is unusual - we've just got to assume the ref knew the rules. ( I know, it goes against everything we've been saying about refs, eh?

As I think has been mentioned earlier in the thread, when we (Leigh) played featherstone their substitute got carded for putting off our kicker as he was waiting to come on. The ref saw him putting off Nanyn and carded him before the substition could be made. This left 'Fev with 13 men on the pitch but they couldn't use that substitute for 10 minutes (which was pointless as their was only about a minute left!)

Was it a pressure Kick? If so he was wasting his time.

Makes me think though, if Leigh get to the Final and Fat Mick plays, Leigh will lose, he's lost about 5 grand finals now hasnt he?

pity ref in last years grand final did not do something about players putting patts off kick when charged out from posts
