His opinion doesn't matter, nor will it have an impact of the outcome directly,

However,

On National TV he shouldn't be allowed to so abruptly say that and give the impression Halifax have no chance based on nothing (there was no debate ongoing nor has he seen anyone's applications). The fact that Eddie and Phil Clarke said next to nothing in reply leads the RL watching Nation thinking Halifax, a Club who have work endlessly on the bid and have actually passed the criteria, have no chance. Halifax RLFC want to build a positive momentum behind their Club and sh*te like this from a pundit doesn't help in the slightest. Lots of people will believe anything if it's on the TV nowadays and now we have people thinking Halifax are cr@p and worse than some of the Clubs is SL.

He didn't insult the club, that isn't the issue. The problem is he had no reason to express such an opinion on a subject that he has no background information on whilst on national tv. The comments were out of proportion in his insistence and also out of context in regards to the conversation taking place. Even Eddie seemed a bit taken aback by it. Why say it at all? It wasn't needed and imagine the feedback from wakey, cas, widnes fans for example if he said the same about them with no just reason.

He over stepped his line in expressing a clear and actually arrogant opinion. Nobody is dead but that's not the point. It simply wasn't needed to be said

They might not be though, a lot of sport will have armchair fans or part-time enthusiasts. I sometimes watch other Sports programmes and just go off what they say. If I watched an English Hockey show and they said the York Wizards had no chance of a franchise in between highlights I'd just think that.

That's a cr@ply made up scenario, but even in your own sport to your own fans an 'air of fairness and positivity' should been on show and that certainly wasn't.

The thing is being abrupt is just Carney's style and what at times makes him a better pundit then the rest.

He said similar when talking about Quins in SL saying just not good enough with crowds etc... Few moans then.

Just moved past it but to be fair they've got to keep to timings, news clips, adverts etc they can't just stop and go 'Hang on, explain further...' and have a 5 minute debate un-scheduled.

Some people have really got their knickers in a twist about this havnt they. All he has stated is just about what every clued up fan already knows. I dont think we have a chance, but its the manner in which he did this which is in question. If there was a debate going on about superleague applications and his opinion was debated by all in the studio it would have been understandable, howeve this was not the case it was talking about Brian Noble and Eddie just threw in the comment "dont forget that Halifax are still in the mix for Superleague come July" and Carney sticks foot well and truly into gob and says "No, No, No they are not, I am ruling them out completely". This took Eddie by surprise, but no further debate was forthcoming.

He probably doesn't like ' toeing the party line ' and discussing something like ' franchise applications ' isn't where he is at , its got bugger all to do with RL , he also probably sees it for what it is , just Fax being used to give a proccess some strange sort of credibility

Not moaning, is better to be positive and your in with a half decent chance IMO, unlikely, but we don't know what's going on behind the scenes at RFL or any bidding clubs!

Maybe he should be asked to explain his comments. Im not reading that as he is slagging the club off. Maybe he is saying that as though he knows its a closed shop when it shouldnt be.

Its not so much that hes insulted the club, but when people have worked really hard over the last 3 years putting are bid together why does he feel like he has to reapeatedly say tht we have no chance of getting a franchise in july?? Its an insult to the people who have all that time putting the bid together isn't it??

You've spent years listening to Eddie and Stevo talking crap, do you really think any of them would think any different.
And to be honest, even though we know what a charade it is, we have now seen where the benchmark is, its up to us now to increase our crowds and develop a better youth system, and thats all we can do while the game is a slave to Red Hall idiots and Sky marketing.

That is the key , that is the one area that is not open to ' subjective ' judgement
