Having a Benefactor is probably what all sports clubs do need, unfortunatly what then happens is the clubs/businesses become reliant on them and completely lazy, it isnt a positive way to operate, and RL in particular isnt suited to them due to the salary cap system we operate
In Rugby League you can do anything if you've got one thing. That one special thing.
Five figure crowds.
Five figure crowds make you iconic. Five figure crowds means you can steal £500k from them. You can rack up massive debts and get bailed out. You can drag the the game of Rugbt League through the mud in the media for nine months. Then, when all seams dead and buried a knight in shining armour will ride in and save you. Because that knight sees potential in you. Despite the awful mess you've got yourself into, the knight sees the potential of a five figure crowd. And after all the mayhem, heartache and ridicule Jabba the Hutt will be there at the end to draw up a new "temporary" license for you.
There's just one strange exception so far. Salford. Why?????
