If Sam does leave Halifax, it has to be for another crack at full time SL rugby in better conditions for preparing for the game at the weekend. I've known him & his family a long long time and have always fot on with him, but the cross section of opinions on this thread alone alarms me.
I must mention a couple of things, there's the ever on-going arguements about Halifax not bothering with local talent, Sam fits the criteria.
The same arguements about players not representing our side with the correct passion required on a rugby field, Sam more than dispels that arguement, OK, he gets carried away, but has passion.
This lad took a serious decision last season with the dis-agreement with Tubbs over playing in the play-offs, that sholud tell everyone how much desire he has for Halifax RLFC, and one senior player at Halifax RLFC told me very recently that he's advised Sam to leave Halifax to further his own career & earning capacity, yet Sam still holds out to play one season more under Harrison for Halifax RLFC.
The lad just can't win, typical of Halifax RLFC supporters in recent times.'"
I would love to see Sam play at least a season under Karl Harrison.
Having spoken to Sam a few times at various functions over the last 18 months, he really is nothing like the schoolboy bully that some portray him as on here. He is a genuinely nice lad who cares greatly about and takes pride in playing for Halifax.
I would not blame him however if he left to Super League to maximise his earning potential because at the end of the day it is a short rugby career and players need/want to earn as much as they can during it. Retirement is only a serious injury away if they are really unlucky.
If he goes to SL - then good luck and all the best for the future Sam. If he stays - brilliant, listen to what Rhino teaches you, channel that natural aggression and passion and you won't go far wrong.
Some people on here need to realise the players that they are knocking and ripping to bits whilst hiding behind a monitor and keyboard are human beings with feelings too.

Well said, we all know Sam can be a hothead and gets a bit daft at times but he does not like losing, no harm in that and I am sure Karl will get him to tone it down a bit. He does play for the shirt most of the time and when he is on fire he takes some stopping, not a big line buster but drags them in and slips the ball out, we have lacked that the last few years.
Hope he stays as good off the field as well.

| I was once told by a former Fax great(not from Halifax) that thhardest people to get on your side are those in your own town, no matter how good you are.
Sounds like what happened with Holly and some of what is happening with Sam. I hope he stays and if he does I'm sure he will improve both his rugby abilities and temperament, if not then good luck to the lad.

| Sam is a good lad off the field but I dont see him ss ready to play regularly in sl. He still has a lot to learn especially how to control his temper and also his discipline. Until he sorts them two areas out I cant see him being fit to reach his potential and play in sl. I believe Harrison could be a key to him reaching his potential. I would say Sam is best spending a year with Fax and then see if he is ready. I sadly cant see him getting much first team action and feel he would learn more at Fax than at a SL club. I dont think thats knocking him bit just being realistic

| Sam Barlow is one of the nicest lads i have ever had the pleasure to meet.
He isnt the bully some on hear make him out to be, i have also seen some people seem to think he likes a drink that is absolute rubbish, i have known sam for a number of years and can tell you the lad is more likely to be seen with a protein shake in his hand than a beer.
He has the potential imo to be one of the best in this league and definatly has the ability to play at super league level. people have to remember this lad played at all youth levels as a wing/, he is very much still learning as a forward, he needs a decent coach to channel that aggression into his game and who better than karl harrison?

| Im not sure many people are questioning what Sam is like off the field, i think most are concerned in how he has performed on it.

| If Sam gets a super league offer then good luck to him. If he doesn't then a year's tutelage, under Karl, can only improve his play. It is clear to me from that playing for Halifax matters to Sam and he plays with passion as a result of this. The same cannot be said of all of our team over the course of this season.
Whilst this passion needs to be channelled, I think our team will be worse off if Sam leaves.

I don't wish to contradict, but,
As I said in another forum, I was fortunate to speak to Sam a week or so ago. I was watching Park v Halifax Irish and Sam walked by.
He doesn't know me any more than any of the other supporters he see's at the game or at functions so I do not think I am betraying any secrets.
He did say that he had been approached by "a couple" of Super League clubs and his =#0000FFagent wanted him to move on but he would rather stay. He said he was at college and wanted to continue combining that with playing for Halifax.
He went on to say that Karl had spoken to him and wanted him to stay.
He said Karl had told him the players he wanted to sign and who he wanted to stay. Ben was not one of them that Sam mentioned.
That's why I had posted that Ben was going to Swinton. (I agree I got that wrong)
He went on to say that no one would want to leave Halifax. They were all such good mates.
Mind you when I asked him about the playoffs he did say we were going al the way?
I am sure he has said this to anyone he has chatted with.
Fellow posters, pick holes in this if you wish, I am only saying what Sam said.

No, No, I didn't take offence. I was just relaying a coversation.
And, I'm sorry if it appeared that way,
The only reason I put this,
"Fellow posters, pick holes in this if you wish, I am only saying what Sam said."
Was as a disclaimer.
