Maybe Deadwood is the wrong word but I think the likes of Paul Smith, David Larder, Adam Rudd, Mike Ratu, Frank Watene, Ryan Clayton will not be playing for Fax next season. I would nt be too surprised to see 12 or more players go from this years squad as we have looked weak in certain areas and others will retire and Karl will want to make changes

Bit harsh on Clayton and Smithy who have both performed pretty well the last few weeks. I'd be tempted to give them another go. In fact for thinking our back row always seems a weak link, with banno, smith, clayton and fairbank there we are starting to look very very solid

Pete interviewed Dave at the dinner Fri night and he said he had played his last game for the club.

Smith possibly but not Clayton, still cant work out how he managed to play at SL level for so long.

Clayton I feel has not really done much at Halifax and whilst I wouldnt say he garbage I have heard from people that he wont be staying. Paul Smith is 33 or 34 and I think he may well retire or be a player coach elsewhere. Smith has done well but I think Karl will make some big changes in the pack especially

Clayton just finished uni degree so perhaps work at Sale last year was part of course.If he working full time for them would be surprised if they let him continue playing rl and whether he would have the time.

Half the players have full time jobs and they cope!

It's a bit unfair saying we don't want this or that player when we are still in the mix. Why not do something different and leave them alone until after we are either knocked out of the play-offs or have competed the GF? Whichever comes first.

Spoke to Handforth at Allrounders game yesterday, as he coaches Methley Royals. I asked whether he would be following Karl to fax and he replied, only time will tell with a big smile on his face. just as the methley team left he then said to me 3players.

My guess is
Ash Lindsey (from previous post)
Handforth (for obvious reasons)
Daley Williams (Halifax lad who Karl appreciates very much)

I'm pretty sure Karl appreciated ALL the Batley players and the feeling appeared mutual looking at how they always bust a gut. Probably the hardest team to beat this season. They never gave up, great defence and even at 24-14 down playing up the slope they came back.

Watching a recording of the match today I'd say their stand out players were Handforth, Lindsey, Preece and one player who surprisingly hasn't had a mention yet, Dane Manning. Always thought Handforth is a very good player .... he ran the show at The Shay in this season's match.

Manning is a fabulous player, appreciated by all at Batley, he actually won the supporters man of steel award this year. We would be delighted if he stayed under the radar. As for the others, I personally would be sad to see Williams go as I really rate him, though he has proven to be injury prone. As for Lindsay, I think one of your posters descrobed him as an average player. . . . . . . well he most certainly is not. As for Handforth, not disappointed if he goes purely because I would expect him to go, pure class and right up there with the very best stand-offs in the division, if not the best. We have had two and a half really stand out seasons from him.

Pretty fair appraisal is that.

Meanwhile back in 2011 - there are still exciting times to be had. We have a good squad and a current coach who are within grasp of doing something magical. Just imagine winning the GF from 6th place. Any why not? There is not a team ahead of us that we should fear. Every single one of them fear Halifax RLFC.

I think we should put discussions about potential players to one side and give the current squad our full support.

a club getting to the final from 6th is a huge achievement in itself.....so fingers crossed. but to actually win it aswell?!

no doubt the clubs staff will be more than focused on selling 3 more big performances to the squad (all against teams we have beaten this year already) and we retain our 'champions' crown!
