The RFL and bl@@dy franchise discussions drive these home / away support discussions. Widnes have good home support for the Championship, Fax also, but not quite as good. Both clubs have great away support, particularly in proportion to their home crowds.

Both clubs would have very decent crowds if they were in SL (increased home support, plus real numbers of away support), but at the moment Widnes would attract more than Fax. If Fax were still at Thrum Hall, this may be reversed - unfortunate fact, but the nature of the Shay is that there are very few "round the corner" spectators - remember that Fax reserve games used to regularly attract 1500+ fans.

Crowd figures get distorted anyway (let's ignore the 4795 for now) - the comparison at Sheffield between the Fax game (I was there) and the Leigh game (on Sky) is laughable.

Having a wealthy benefactor who basically bankrolls a sports club is never a good idea. Look at what happened to Oldham when Bill Quinn pulled his cash out on a whim.
I remember a few years ago when I picked up the Yorkshire Evening Post and was astonished at the headline 'Multi-Millionaire to buy Bulldogs'.
Although it was all very exciting, our chairman turned down the said gentlemans offer for the club, citing that fact that he just didn't trust him.
The guy flounced out of a public meeting at Mount Pleasant and was never seen again. I believe he surfaced at Halifax Town, where once on the board he promised money and success.......
Thank God our chairman had the sense to see through the dollar bills.

The thing you have to remember is that Des does not put money in to the club. He has in the past to clear a debt that was incurred through a legal battle over the rights to sell alcohol in the ground. He invested 100k when he joined and made an additional load of 30k (all there in the accounts).
What you all fail to realise is that we OWN our stadia outright so we only have maintenance to cover. We receive all profits from the bar and food, we have a very healthy lottery club that generates £1,000.00's every year, raffles and halftime draws, good local sponsorship (including ground naming). If Des left tomorrow it would not affect our income we would just lose one of the most charismatic men I have met. He doesn’t suffer fools, says what he thinks and is very passionate of sport in general including football...is that a bad thing???

As for beeing a bigger club than Barrow possibly you are but for how long? If you look at your history books we have been here a long time and at the top flight. We are all in the same boat and stuck in the same league so you can be as arrogant as you want as it just doesnt wash anymore.
