| for what iits worth, i think the refs in Rugby league have the most difficult job, Rugby is a game played on the edge of the rules all the time, with the pace and high impact of players, the speed in which decisions need to be made, it is the most un wanted role i can think off, no matter what you do u cannot please anybody!
with regard to yesterday, a few decisions he made were baffeling, he penalised for challenging for the ball in mid air, was pedantic at 20 meter taps, becasue he was not ready, on one occasion he blew his whitle 4 times to restart the match, so many infact i though he was playing "name that tune!"
however all this said, he did not effect the overall outcome of the game and fax took the points from a strong looking dewsbury side, they obvously had a game plan and stuck to it in the first half, the pace from both sides was good, according to WJ they did not stick to it in the second and that was their downfall!
i though, Larder and Ostick ran hard and straigh in the second half, and backy looked elusive with ball in hand, the differance on the day

| I think that we may have persuaded the referee from officially reporting said volunteer.
As I said afterwards the going rate is about £150 if you end up on a charge at Red Hall.....

| nothing can ever beat the refs being escorted off the field at craven park, the tunnel used to be caged in, i have never seen such abuse from fans towards another human, it was horific!
I did notice that the ref got an escot off at half and full time on Sunday. the joys of the new stand sitting behind the dug outs, no posts.... a vast improvment

You sure it wasn't the Boulevard? If not, then Hull must have been hell for the refs.

Those were not escorts they were "bodyguards"
I personally thought he had a shocker and made silly mistakes, for both sides. But he was not helped one little bit by his touch judges, they might have well have not been there!!!!
I agree with your earlier post, its a pretty un-loved job and certainly one I would never have wanted (when I was young enough to do it), but without them we dont have a game.
Anyone know who we have to delight us on Thursday?

Halicat also gave him some stick and he wasn't happy about that either - obviously.

| Quote ="Officeboy"Well at least no-one who should know better like, say, a responsible, long serving, well respected volunteer at the Club had a go at the referee after the game with his 'official' pass on full view so that the referee could get his name for the purposes of reporting him!
Did they?

| The problem with Match Officials is more than just blaming the Ref or Linesman. The person in charge of match officials is Stuart "Arrogant" Cummins. Since he has been in the job the standards are getting worse. He seems to want to promote young people in to Match Officials who lack experience and often have never played the game at any level! He also never accepts that his officials make mistakes and have affected results- The leeds v Bradford game at Cardiff think last year for example. And I see the Super League and officials are allegedly Full Time. God knows what they do as they are no better than when Part time!
I remember Jamie Bloem on Radio Rhinos & Tigers saying something similar. As a player who has played the game you know often what to look out for and often can read a game and whats going on and why a certain player/Team has done something. And often these young guys simply are being shoved in to games which they cant handle due to inexperience and the Championship is for me being used as a testing ground for up and coming officials.
I know the NRL has 2 Refs and often a Rookie is placed with an experienced Ref. Mistakes still happen there but for me the Match Officials are more consistant in Australia than in the UK.

| Quote ="paulifax"Not to mention that Halloran is Dewsbury born and bred according to a number of Rams fans and should never have been in contention for the game.
I thought this poster was having a laugh. I cannot believe the RL would do this. Unfair on the ref and the clubs concerned.

| I believe he is a staunch Batley fan. And, I stand to be corrected, I think that Richard Silverwood is fan of the Dogs as well.

I think a few of us have a little place in our hearts for the Doggies !
Cheap supping in their players bar after the game last saturday, £2 for a pint of lager, very welcoming lot too, nice club & nice folks.

| One of the problems is avoiding Dewsbury Society officials.
James Child, Richard Silverwood, Jamie Leahy, Craig Halloran.
Good record for a small town.
