i heard this too yesterday from some on at the game, if its true it will be an awsome signing, look how god harris is at fev hope its true if we get him its going to be our year without a dout

How old is he? When would he still be good enough for SL in 2 1/2 years time when we get promoted?

Seroiusly thought about giving up my season ticket when we re-signed Holroyd and would re-think again if Briers signs.As others have said why disrupt the team for a player who has a reputation for stirring things up.Doesn't it say something that he was never chosen to go on GB/England tours so opted to play for Wales and now he seems to be out of favour at Wolves when the England coach in charge.Please Fax don't try and fix wot ain't broke

I really cant beleve this to be true anyway.

Much as I rate Mick Govin we have to remember:

a) His injury record – who would play 6 if he gets injured? Not that unlikely considering previous injuries.
b) His best position is at hooker, he is OK at 6 but not the best in the division by any stretch.
c) He doesn’t dictate the game as Holroyd did and produce the tactical kicks that can turn defence into offence. I think Briers would provide this additional option to the team and having 2 quality players compete for the shirt would improve the squad.
d) Players of this quality aren’t always available – so you have to get them when you can.

If the opportunity came along to sign Briers and we could afford him I would snap him up. Briers and Black could be lethal. People are too quick to believe hearsay about a player. Holyroyd changed our season when he arrived – the best teams always look to strengthen when they can.

Briers for me reminds me of when we signed Bishop. I can imagine that most things being said on here would have appeared then had the net been invented.

For me Briers has been the one (granted up to this season) who has made Wire play. He can control a game, kicks goals for fun, can take on the line & is a little "e. Id rather have in my team than against me.

just fancey if this was true and we got Briers, it would sure put fax in the national spot light, sky would have a field day, and how many old supporters would come out of the woodwork to see him, if it did happen it would be good for the club as a whole, but lets not allso forget ower team we have at the mo, we dont want anybody thats going to rock the boat, we have a great set of lads that all work for each other and all want the same thing, we dont need to spoil it,

Hardly think he would be in a position to spoil it really.People are saying much the same things about Briers as they did Holroyd but we got a couple of good years out of him before he got so as he thought he was able to dictate his own agenda .So IF and it`s a big IF Briers is the" same stamp" hardley think he can just walk into a well settled side and think he can run it. Myself I think he may be worth a punt and when it`s time to move on he will but it might in the meantime put a few bums on seats and he will have a point to prove he will want to shine in a NL1 side to get back in Super League.

All my time on the message board I have only ever seen one rumoured signing posted on here actually come off. That was Blacky last season. I’ve rated Briers in past seasons, granted I have always thought of him as a little after the Bloem incident but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think this is all just rumours started to give us something to talk about.

Beswick, Goddard, Holroyd and Roberts' return were all rumoured on here and i'll bet - plenty more. Everything happens on here first - how do you think the Courier keeps it's RL section going? Have you been asleep while on these message boards?

Wasn't the Holroyd thing rumoured on here too.

Ive only posted what Ive heard, I have no Idea whether it has any substance or not, but like I said in a previous post I've heard before now that Wire want rid of him and tried to Loan him to Barrow (was mentioned that in the week upto our game up there) so if he is on his way, perhaps he could be coming to Fax.

Strange things can happen, If someone said this time last year we'd sign Mark Gleeson it'd have being dismissed outright.

Not a big fan of Briers. Dodgy defence and head too big much of the time. Can still remember the game he tried to win entirely with drop goals - Cardiss dived over to seal it if I remember correctly

I have to say that I would take Briers like a shot. $hit stirrers don't stay at clubs for 10+ years, quality players do. Passion can sometimes be misconstrued!! The same was said re Holly as previously said.

Personally I don't rate Govin, I think he lacks the quality to be a real star no6. Young Bowman is a couple of years away from the finished article and we look to be grooming him for SL in 3 years hopefully! Briers can win you a match single handed like Holly could . . . . . . . . Can Govin??

We really lack a true No6 but don't want to read too much into this YET!!!!

Holroyd was not in the same league as Briers and he looked liked a superstar so just think what Briers would be like at this level

Come on he would be a terrific asset at this level, would rather have him playing for us not against us!
I like Mick Govin and am chuffed the lad seems to have put his injury nightmare behind him (hopefully I have not jinxed him now) but have to agree he is a bit off being a top stand off, good squad member if we do get Briers though?

Quite an effective way of helping put a game to bed, especially if 18 points up, would be a big blow to an oppositions morale if 12, 18 or 24 points behind suddenly became 13, 19 or 25, especially later on in a game.
