David and his family came to the Sheffield game yesterday as guests of the Club. We were really pleased that he was able to come, but even now some 6/7 months after the Grand Final incident, he is still only able to get about by way of a wheelchair.

The reception he received at half time was magnificent from all the fans at the game and he was really touched that there was even a chant for him, as indeed were we.

He still has a lot of time yet on his road to recovery and it's disappointing that his attackers still remain at large. Even now anyone with any information ought to contact the Chesire police

Nonetheless a really big thank to everyone for his reception yesterday, I know it cheered him up no end

I'd like to say thanks to everyone involved at the club, players and staff, for getting Dave and his family to the game yesterday. It was very emotional to see him. The applause, whistling and chanting were awesome. Well done to all.

I have known Dave & his parents for many years and great work from the club in looking after Dave and his parents yesterday. Such little things can make a big difference and hope it can push Dave to hopefully not be in a Wheelchair the rest of his life.

Indeed a fantastic reception from all inside the ground, including the Sheffield fans. Lets hope the boys kick on now and win some more matches for him!

great to see is that, it isnt just Halifax fans that wish him a speedy recovery.

Glad to hear that Dave made the game yesterday, it is with great to hear that one of our own (of the RL family) has returned to the fold. I hope one day that i have the pleasure of shaking the hand of this brave man.

By all accounts Dave is just an ordinary bloke that enjoys supporting his team.

Their was a number of very generous Fax fans who would have gladly contributed to picking up the tab for Dave to be at the final in Blackpool and it goes without saying how much that is appreciated.

The unpredictable nature of Dave's daily circumstances and the number of people involved in his welfare meant it very dificult for any real plans for us on the outside to make, because of this it was thought it be best for those responible for his care and closet to him and who would have to look after him on the day to decide if they wanted to go.
He may yet be there but either way he will be fully behind the lads.
I will be speaking to him soon and let you all know.

Any updates on Dave cheers. How far is he from a full recovery?

Dave has been in the Daniel Yorath centre for the last few months.
He has been out and about with his parents on limited excursions and you may have seen him at a couple of Fax games on the new stand concourse area.
He has been home on the weekends lately and moves are in place to make that more permanent but there is a fair bit of work to do for his access and egress needs.
Very upbeat and has shown tremendous determination and courage in his fight for recovery.
Sadly the wheelchair will be part of his life from now on but he does have a life that he can enjoy with his family friends and his beloved clubs of Fax and Town.

The character and sheer good nature of the man is to be seen once again as he personally states having no bad feelings towards any club, their supporters and has completely moved on.
A truly fine example for us all.

It's still hard to imagine that one day last year at a rugby league match someone's life was changed dramatically forever. What a mad world we live in. I hope this thread is kept on here for a long long time - for the updates - and as poingnant reminder that even on the most innocuous of occasions your life can change instantly.

Thanks for the update Faxcar, it is good to know that Dave is making progress though be it slowly. He is an inspiration to us all.
