| At least something has been said over his situation and that they aren't blind to the fact the supporters aren't happy.
If we don't see a marked improvement in performances over the Easter period then I feel his position will become intenable.
At the end of the day, we need more fans in order to have a chance of a SL place. The longer we are in a rut and fans are unhappy with the coach, the less fans will be attracted to come and watch.

| A good professional response from the club. Howeber i do feel calland has taken us as far as he can. Opposition coaches must be rubbing their hands. I don't think he will be here at the end of the season though, although it may be too late then...................

| For the record. We are wrong to take pops at the board. There are many people on the board who saved the club from oblivion and, i think mr clay has done a marvellous job. Lets not turn them against the club and heading for the exit door. I'm sure they have read the riot act to the coach and have strategies in place to move forward with or without calland. History suggests they have the best interests of the club at heart - lets never forget this lads

| Oh Dear Oh Dear,
Not as though anyone will still be reading these posts as we are now at about number 9 million and 4 but that in itself should say something to the Board. Their are alot of unhappy folk out here guys. I said on the way out on Sunday that we are caught in a situation now. Just like the Cattle when they were (and still are) discussing getting rid of their leader of men, it comes down to cash. If we sack him it costs so why resign? Its the honourable thing yet would I quit my job in these times when I could be certain of a big fat redundancy if I stick it out? It aint brain surgeory to work it out.
The thing is, we made the 'mistake' last season by giving 'one of the most promising up and coming British coaches' (I believe it went) an extended contract on the back of the early season results.
A look at the real picture shows we started the year on fire, better coaches then worked out our game plan, adapted, beat us, we couldn't adapt ourselves as our coach couldn't match them, we lost 80% of our games after mid year, won a couple at the end of the season, lost to Barrow in the qualifying SF (badly), scrapped past Fev, lost in the GF when Barrow were their for the taking, made some excellent signing in the winter (which I think Hall deserves credit for), put a good squad together, (certainly the best in the league by a mile), beat London Skolars, lost to the eagles, should have lost to the Eagles again but got out of jail, stuffed Batley down the hill then hung on and could have lost, did well at Widnes and all seemed rosey when in reality it masked the above points, embarrased by Hunslet, disgrace against Leigh and now we are all sitting here on this thread sayng we need a new coach. Maybe, just maybe when things are laid out like this it actually shows the real picture. We HAVE to do something, this squad can still fix this situation, so can the board cos I trust them too, I'm afraid Mat cant.
If you aint part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Lecture over.

Hear, hear, well said.
We have three games to concentrate on, in six days. This is a big ask of the injury depleted squad and they need us behind them, starting at Feb on Friday.
Come on Tax heads up your better than this.

Who on the BOD do you think will have done this?
The statement looks like a vote of confidence to me but dosnt hide the fact that the board won't have the bottle to do anything until it is too late again. I mean they are going to work together now. Shouldn't they be doing that anyway. So there's no money to bring players in ( which I'm not sure we need anyway) so what will any member of the BOD do to help MC get over his coaching and man managment problems?

| The fact you are asking means they are not prone to airing dirty washing in public. Good management. How naive you are to think calland hasn't had a dressing down. They've obviously spoken to him and won't have been about the weather! Get a grip. We have oneof the best boards in the game

Get real, todays announcement is shambolic and only serves to worsen the breakdown in the club.
Calland and Hall should have resigned. This wont go away and why should it. I will continue to support the club, but i will also continue to air my concern that the coaching structure is not right, the squad is not balanced and we can do better, sentiment plays no part here, the board have been weak.

| How many times over the years of watching Rugby League and Footy have we heard interviews winth managers of teams that are playing poorly and the guy says "The team are playing terrible but I'm the manager/coach and the blame has to lie with me, and its my job to sort it"?
All we have heard from Calland is; Not had a pre-season, poor weather, players in last chance salloon, players not doing as they are instructed, not sticking to the game plan, not got adequate training facilities.
At no point has he had the balls to put his hand up and say he is atleast partly to blame!!!
Is it any wonder (if true) that the players don't wanna play for him?

I think your being a little unfair. The board don't have to tell us anything and they have. What do you expect from them? They have clearly decided to stick with Calland for now and they have told us that.
Also I still don't understand why people keep bring Hall into it? It is NOT his job to coach the team. Do people not understand what he does??

| This "weak" BOD are the same people who have refinanced the club (largely by investing their OWN money), cleared off debt, negotiated firstly to get the stand finished and then get a long term lease on the stadium, and built a team that is, at least until the last two games, been one of the most consistent and entertaining in the league. It's not that long since we were battling to avoid going down (remember york) or battling to stay alive. People have short memories, I think the BOD are doing a great job and unless someone wants to stump up 20-odd grand to join them, let them get on with the job.

| As much as we have plenty to thank our BOD for keeping Calland is NOT one of them. Keeping Calland in my opinion could railroad our season into mediocrity as he has clearly lost the confidence and respect of the players. We may moan about training facilities but is training 3 timers per week for 2 hours really enough? Powell at Fev brings his guys in twice daily some weeks doing weights in the morning session (6.30 - 8.00am) and they then concentrate on ball work etc in the evening session. A very professional coaching set up. The words professional and coaching do not go together where Halifax and Calland are concerned and here lies the problem. To stick with Calland right now is a "WEAK" decision in my opinion and the easy option. We need a different approach on the coaching front to take the club forward and compliment the other work being done behind the scenes.

| Having a pop at the BoD?
Good one that. Let's hound them out like we did with Tony Gartland. Does anyone know what it will cost to oust Matt? Does anyone know who will pay the balance of the contract if applicable? GFB - do you want to dip your hands in your pocket and pay him? Chris Smith? Anyone? The rumours of player unrest - does anyone know how many are unsettled? Is it one or two players allegedly "holding the club to ransom"? Seven?
There's some real sweeping statements made by those who know knack all. I implicitly trust the board of directors. From 2004's edge of the precipice to the stability we had in 2009, i thank the board. The hard work (voluntary !!!) that these people put into the club - i thank the board. For keeping Halifax RLFC alive (on meagre crowds don't forget!!!) - i thank the board. I wonder how many of these know-alls would still be here if we'd suffered what Leigh had done over the last 18 months. How many would still be here if we matched the status of clubs like Batley and Dewsbury?
Think yourself lucky you've got a decent rugby club because some of you don't deserve one.

Do you have any positive comments about HRLFC and its BOD's?
All your posts are dreary and repetitive and to call the BODs weak just shows how clueless you really are! I will no longer take time to read your diatripe efforts, think I will join Tony Fax I & II.

| I'm sure the situation is being taken very seriously by the BOD but what do people expect them to say.
"Having listened to the advice of the Angry Mob we have told Matt Calland that if he doesn't sort it out quickly he's on his bike!"
That would be very professional, wouldn't it?

Think the Tony Gartland situation was a bit different. But yes i would dip my hands in my pockets.
Quote ="littlerich" The rumours of player unrest - does anyone know how many are unsettled? Is it one or two players allegedly "holding the club to ransom"? Seven?'"
Not sure what you mean by holding the club to ransom. More a case of a few senior players telling the public that they are not happy about a lack of `proffesionalism` at training and at the club. One talked about a big divide in the dressing room and another spoke about there been "something going on at the club".
Quote ="Graham Clay""There is no falling out behind the scenes and no lack of support for the coach.'"
Cover up or just unaware of unrest on the playing front? Or players simply making things up?

Been there and done it. Still here. I would support us if we were bottom of the league, like i have. Its just now we have a great opportunity to put Halifax back on the RL map. I think however that it wont happen with MC at the helm. I feel anyone could coach the set of players we have and get decent results, a good coach would i feel have us firing on all cylinders.
Quote ="littlerich"Think yourself lucky you've got a decent rugby club because some of you don't deserve one.'"
Comedy gold again Dicky. How do you define if someone deserves a rugby club? If someone dares to voice an opinion on a fans message board they dont deserve a club. Give your head a shake lad.
