I'm very partial to Escargot, as it happens, and Cuisses de grenouilles also.

yeh, you're right,I should try them both - strange, thirty odd years in france and never tried them ?
they do stir-fried frogs legs in the local chinky,i'll try them next time, apparently it tastes like chicken.
I love winkles so probably snails are a bigger version ? - problem with the french way of snail eating is that they are a bit too heavy on the garlic when only a pinch would be enough for me - but then again,i'm a fussy old b****r

| I think that unfortunately the average crowd in Toulouse will stay around 1500 - 2000. The South-West of France is predominantly rugby union and that won't change. Who knows what the RFL were thinking by bringing in another French team when Catalans still need focus (IMO). But even though it is a long way to go, you'd be far stretched to find a more welcoming club and supporters in the heartlands. I haven't had the chance to go with Fax but I did go and watch the Challenge Cup Quarter Final match against Widnes back in 2005 (I was living out there and hadn't seen a RL match since Xmas - withdrawal sypmtoms meant I'd have watched any team!). I went on my own and had a brilliant day out mingling with both sets of supporters. There are clubs a lot closer to home I wouldn't think about visiting on my own. So they don't have the biggest crowds and you've got to cross the Channel and France to get there - they're a good club, fans enjoy it and whether we like it or not they are showing that they can compete with the top teams on their day. Is that not better than every team being a walkover? If we can win that trophy again at the end of the season then it really will have been another achievement.
And sanjunien - cuisses des grenouilles - elles sont bonnes. il faut les goûter!

Think what you like I just know it was sad to see such an empty ground.
I heard from a work colleague that Huddersfield are giving away free tickets for Friday to 'bump' the crowd up.
What has the game come to chasing PR numbers, even if they don't pay!
How sad.

| Quote ="sanjunien"You sound just like your coach,a bad loser - your lads expected to turn up and take the three points and totally disregarded the opposition - I don't think i've seen such a deflated coach at a press conference. For some reason the swagger and confidence at the corresponding game last year has disappeared ! Visiting Toulouse was great when you were winning then wasn't it ? All of a sudden it's "not so appealing",I wonder why ?
Regarding the crowd - I didn't bother to count them personally, silly me ! I asked in the club office after the game when MC was trying to get a dvd copy and this was the figure announced to me - don't whinge at me if the figure is correct or not,ok ? To say there were 500 is a complete joke - stop with the sour grapes please.
If our great game game is dying in the english heartlands then what else can we do ? I'm sure the RFL would love to survive with the game in it's traditional areas if only to save money on ventures like france etc but the truth is it isn't doing very well so you have to look for business elsewhere. If you people in the heartlands don't want the game then what is the RFL supposed to do ?'"
Firstly visiting Toulouse is great first time around and in the summer!
Second no sour grapes from me about the match we lost to the better team on the night, why say that to me?
Third, you had a go at Hunslets crowd yet as I said if there were 500 on Saturday at Toulouse that was about right. Why is what I saw with my own eyes a complete joke as you say?
Toulouse is a RU city, seeing the RU clubs set up on the way to the airport I can see why its very impressive, they also had a shop and even a cafe at the airport, a big club!
I think that there is only room for one French club in the English game as you have to ask is it worth spending a fortune on another paying teams to travel and put them up for two nights must cost a bomb!
Not worth it imo, not even a trip for the fans, soz.

Toulouse is a great city all year round - clean, safe, friendly and easy to get around - plus it has a great RU team that plays good rugby.TO13 is a bonus for me,that's why i'm trying to sell up and move down there or thereabouts.I love both codes and currently go to watch Brive which is my nearest pro RU club to watch a decent level in the Top 14 plus the occasional european game.
So I take it from your apparent dislike of the Pink City (La Ville Rose) ,you won't be travelling there again with the fans next season ? (or maybe in the NRC ?)
Yes,as a neutral (recall i'm a Sants fan) you were indeed outplayed on the night or maybe outcoached ? I believe MC underestimated the home team and only the evergreen Holroyd who I thought was impressive and Nash who worked his socks off did your boys credit. I think MC learned a big lesson last weekend....
Please stop saying there were only 500 people there - it's ridiculous man ! the official figure was 1021 as announced by an official in the club office - we might just as well take any thing any club official from any club with a pinch of salt.I don't personally care if there were only 5 people there ! I agree that TO13 is an expensive luxury the RFL can do without but it's not us that make he rules is it ? The RFL feel the need to expand because the game is dying in their precious heartlands - the last thing they want is to waste your money on frivolous ventures in SW france i'm sure. If I were living within the M62 corridor I would feel the same as you.

| The only reason heartland rugby may be seen to be 'dying on its feet' is purely down to the exclusion rules the RFL apply. If 'Fax (or Widnes, or Leigh or any other you care to chose) were in SL, I doubt you could use that analogy.

so actually interest in RL isn't diminishing in the heartlands then ? I just seem to recall in the 70s & 80s higher crowds at the M62 clubs when thought of expanding to places like Perpignan & Toulouse would have been laughed out of court.
so,actually there isn't a major problem within the heartland clubs,is that it ? speaking as someone who hasn't been to the area (except for a two day visit to Leeds in 199icon_cool.gif for 25 years or so as a RL follower.
any fault lies with the RFL then,is that it ?

| The ' fault ' lies with ,
The RFL for not understanding why people actually go to games
The clubs , for not understanding why people start to go to watch the games
The RFL and the clubs for thinking they can run clubs on the money running a RL competition brings in and its ability to attract investement
This is in reference to sub SL competition

| Me thinks that the RFL want to put in an international expansion plan that's appealing to a larger audience - supported by media , say SKYTV etc . Dream on , but one day they might want a true global game like RU , but right now it's not.
I don't know the mathematics, but an expanded SL involving 3 more clubs would seem ideal, 2 more English and 1 French. Then replace TO13 with another French side. The game has to work hard to raise it's international appeal.
Money and marketing can do great things to turn things around for all - incl. players and spectators.

Blimey you a politician twisting my words???
I never said I did not like Toulouse its a decent city, I said its not as good in winter which most places aren't.
As for the crowd well its well known you are allowed to count ALL tickets you issue such as season tickets and freebies as part of the crowd, its no longer the figure for those who actually come through the turnstiles although I wish it was as a lot of people will be in for a shock.
Suit yerself I have a good idea what I saw was [iaround [/i500 people end of story.

no twisting at all mate - i'm just saying Toulouse is a great city all year round - the weather in summer isn't always 'better' as you put it as it can become TOO HOT & steamy which can be just as unpleasant as in the middle of winter in it's own way.But it is a great place, pity you won't be there for the next Fax game.
regarding the ticket count - your criteria therefore applies to all RL games I take it so,for example,an official crowd at The Shay of 1500 could only be 700 for example ? using your logic ?
Stick to your 500 if it makes you feel better
Enjoy Halifax,i'm sure it's a wonderful town

Why so bitter and unpleasant?
You called me a pri*ck because I had an opinion and then tried to laugh it off as in your words "a term of endearment"
There were only 500 odd at the game. That is a fact. Halifax is not as nice as Toulouse, but Hebden Bridge, Old Town and most of the surrounding area are beautiful.

I called you what ????? when ????? you sound such a bitter person.....
there are some lovely places in your area but I haven't been to Halifax since the 70/80s with Norwich City in a cup game if I recall - spent a few of days in the area and did indeed see the delights of Hebdon Bridge & Todmorden etc etc yeh, nice part of the world - will visit again when I retire and have more time on my hands.
I'm not comparing Toulouse to anywhere else ! it's a nice area, just like there are nice areas in the uk - don't be so touchy !
if you can't take a light-hearted comment in the spririt in which it was intended then you must have one heck of a chip on a certain part of your anatomy.
lighten up man
So,will you be down for the next TO game ?
