| Quote ="Listenup94"On the play the ball issue this again isn’t straight forward as I believe it is open to interpretation, winning the ruck and trying to dominate the ruck through quick play the balls is a grey area , the offensive side perhaps trying to play the ball while the tackle is nt complete , the defending side lying on and not clearing quickly can result in interference around the ruck and subsequent incorrect play the ball , regardless given that tangata is a repeat offender in this regard would mean intensive coaching to at least iron out these issues.'"
I think you make a good point you could go through every game and there will be a number of incorrect play the balls that don't get pulled up. The problem adam could have referees will probably know who are regular offenders in this area of the game and watch them more closely.

| Well I’m certainly one who would love to see a block busting forward.
Couple of questions though.
Can anyone suggest who this might be and provide a name?
Can anyone suggest why if that player exists he would want to come to Fax when if he was that good there would likely be several SL clubs and top Championship clubs also wanting to sign him?
On scapegoats, the biggest consistency in that regard is that it’s whoever happens to be the Fax coach at the time, it was the same with MC, KH, RM and now SG and whoever follows.
On Walmsley I would play him.

| On walmsey I’ve given it some thought, someone , I can’t remember if it was on here or Facebook made a valid point , we haven’t signed walmsey to make yards like salty , different types of player ,in some respects his physicality is irrelevant plus we have other backs like arundal , McComb, worthington when fit who can fulfil this roll . It is possible we’re overthinking things and walmsey was rested to give tibbs an opportunity against weaker opposition, both rawsthorne and the ginger fox were rotated last season.
Regards the forward situation I believe the only option at this time in the season is the duel reg , out of ashworth and mason I preferred ashworth, mason seems a big lad but doesn’t run with much intent and ashworth has got an offload . Tyler Dupree fits the bill but obviously not an option at the moment.
I’d be interested to know if we ever look further afield like Whitehaven do or like when we signed tangata and cahalane.

| My view on Lachlan is that when in a couple of years we are watching him tear it up in SL we'll all be saying why didn't Grix pick him more often? Get the lad in the team and let him do the job for us while we've got him. Up The Fax!

I would take ashworth in the team each week he did well for giants on sunday though. Watched the leigh game back also and Ashworth stood out and played well thought mason was lazy in defence

Yes it’s very difficult to assess who’s doing what live as emotions are involved but he looked promising, also seen a few games of him playing for saints and he looks decent, big strong and with an offload ( still should have passed when we had a three on two on the 20 minute mark )even if we can’t have him now it’s worth keeping an eye on these players for the future some of the fax forwards are reaching there mid 30s and will need replacing at some point .

| I think Walmsley has the skills to go up a level to SL but I dont think grix has the capability to take him there . It cuts both ways in a player coach relationship . Time will tell.

| Walmsley is the type of player that can win a game when the games tight. He has the speed and ‘Xfactor’ to produce when it matters. As others mentioned Grixy may have seen this game as an opportunity to get Tibbs in to show him what he can offer us this season should we need to call on him.
Just to touch on the point of Tangata and incorrect play the balls… i don’t think its open to interpretation - the Batley game which i was at and the Leigh game i watched ont tele, he got to his feet and fell after playing the ball. Its a penalty all day long and will continue to be punished for it, He needs to cut it out. The worst penalty to concede is one when you have the ball!

Play the ball is open to interpretation as the referee has to decide if a genuine attempt to play the ball has been made which involves using the heel to kick it back which doesn’t happen all the time , plenty of games where the decision can go either way in a similar vein to reefing the ball out / knock on rule .
Like I said in my original post tangata given that he’s a repeat offender needs to work on it , regardless.
Also an incorrect ptb doesn’t result in a penalty but possession given back to the opposition .

| Talking of Tangata, as well as playing the ball correctly it's about time the rest of his game stepped up. Aye, he's a decent player at this level but I'd like to see more from him than he has shown so far this season. To me he just isn't showing us what he is capable of. Very average so far. Up The Fax!

| Oh I should have added Calcott to my fall guy post. Can't remember seeing the lad have a bad game for us and seems to make good yard with the ball. Another that is usually one of the first out of the team though.

| Good prospect is Will and would get better the more game time he gets in, better to play in the reserves than just be left sitting on his butt or carrying a water bottle.
Someone else would be left out of the 17 if he wasn’t so who would that be when there’s not a lot to choose between most of them?
Every club has a batch of players who rotate in and out of the starting team more than others it’s as much a part of the game as anything else.

Exactly, if gee and Knowles were fit the rotation would be even greater , it’s a long season , I appreciate some people want our own reserves but that’s not possible right now , someone has to miss out , I don’t think it’s personal.

Compared to last year when we could hardly scrape 17 together including the walking wounded who played for weeks when they really shouldn’t have and selection was a choice from who’s carrying the least knocks surely we should be glad to have the rotation option to choose from a bigger squad than complain about it?

| I think in the forwards there’s only been gwaze , Murray and tangata who haven’t been dropped at some stage .
Gwaze and Murray have been excellent, tangata admittedly hasn’t been top notch yet , his time might may come through the course of the season.

| It’s a bit of a dilemma with young players.
To realise their full potential on the one hand they need to play as much as possible but by definition whilst in the learning stage they are performing at less than their potential.
To play them when you have a number to choose from equates to leaving out another young player with equal potential or someone with more experience whose performances are just as good or slightly better.
Not an easy or a straightforward choice.

| Why are we rotating players when we have only been playing one game every fortnight for some weeks now. It is like we are resting players before we have even got going this season. And considering people keep saying we need time to gel it will take longer if the team keeps getting changed game to game. If players are injured or ill fair enough but most of the players that have been left out have been playing for huddersfields reserves. As for the team for sunday i would go with.
woody
salty
mcomb
arundel who also needs to pull is finger out.
walmsley
jouffret

Agree on arundal , he’s sound defensively but offers little in attack . Calcott isn’t in the 21 man squad so I will go
Woody
Salty
McComb
Arundal
Walmsey
Jouffret ( 50/50 with him and Aston )
Keyes
Murray
Moore
Tangata
Kavanagh
Hewitt
Fairbank
Wood
Gwaze
Barber
Morris
Tbh I’d be happy with any of the forwards and I’ve picked jouffret over Aston but happy either way .

The reasons are injuries, illness, form and on form there are several who still haven’t shown enough to be shoe ins or certain starters and you can only completely gel across the board when the bulk of the 21 are ticking those boxes and comes from a combination of both the work done during the week in training and playing on match day as much of it before the whistle blows not only after it.
As stated 17 into 21 doesn’t go so it’s either the reserves or nowt and something must be better than nothing.
Of those still in the fighting it out slots I’m not fussed who plays.
Just the halves to decide on, if they are all fit Keyes plus any 1 from 2 providing LJ is fully recovered from his hammy, if not then I would give him another weeks rest and go with Aston.
Joe is an example of putting his marker down as being a certain starter, the pack needs to do the same.
CA and LJ are selection examples based on injury, illness and form both with different qualities likely to be fighting it out for the rest of the season all other things being equal but even if both were playing to their best one of them would be left out as other players have, as 21 into 17 doesn’t work neither does 3 into 2.

One solution could be to increase the number of allowed substitutions from 4 to 6 to choose from for teams who have enough players.
If there was a cap of say a maximum of 2 additions allowed from DR / loan or whatever it’s called these days in the 21 then you would have the possibility of up to 19 own club players either starting or on the bench on match days.
It would also help with player welfare in preventing players staying on the pitch after having taken a knock.
Just a thought.
