| Copied from other thread as thought it was better in this one!!
Read both threads concerning Calland and the performance today and the silence from the "Calland In" crowd is deafening. Todays performance is a culmination of poor coaching, discipline and organisation that in my opinion has been on-going for some time. Personally for me Calland should have gone before last season got underway after his "incident" in Halifax. The Grand Final merely served as a superb smoke screen and papered over a number of cracks that were starting to appear in Callands coaching ability. When it truly mattered last season in the "major" games we blew it and I have always bemoaned Callands ability to really get any of his teams highly charged and passionate. Today was a prime example. Champagne corks freshly popped on a new era for the Town, club and stadium and what happens? - The worst performance in many years.
Millward played superb mind games during the week complimenting our speed out wide, whilst plotting to batter us up the middle, in fact they battered us in every department and as many previous posters have mentioned a large majority of their team were well beaten by us less than 12 months ago. What a difference a coach makes!! - I thought Leigh were SUPERB today and played how I want every Fax side to play . . . . . . For each other. They were led well by Paul around the park and played good, hard, basic rugby and looked to offload at the right time but were patient and built momentum.
Calland must (hell as got to) go but I am not sure the BOD are strong enough to make such a decision. As much as I was berated for mentioning on here a players comments made to our group last week (just how true were those supposed flippant comments?)........As I have always said where HRLFC and rumours are concerned there is normally some truth, no smoke without fire and all that. Halifax actually look like a side who don't train or know each other saying that and players sound like rats wanting to desert a sinking ship if the other rumours have any element of truth to them.
I take no pleasure in seeing my team play like that but sacking Calland is no "knee-jerk" reaction it is a decision that needs making for the good of the club moving forward and damn quick before the season is over before it has got going. We need fresh impetus with a whole new back room setup and I personally would bring in someone with no links to the club. We've appointed on sentiment before with TA and I'm not sure Rhino is the answer right now.

I would have thought that, if the board has met and taken any decision on the coach's future (whether to stick with him or to replace him) or intend to meet in the next day or so to discuss the matter, they would prefer not to have news just leak out but would want to be able to formulate and issue a proper press statement at the appropriate time explaining what their decision is and their reasoning for it.
I'm sure there will shortly be some official reaction from the club to current events, whatever those reactions might be, and that the Courier will then report and comment on these. I do hope so because the worrying issues about the coaching and team morale need addressing at the highest level...and quickly.

| I dont see why we have to buy him out of his contract. In any other job if you dont perform you get sacked without a payoff.

Good call. We've got five captains too so that's a great opportunity for the headline writers

| Realistically i don't see anything changing this week. I just don't think boards make decisions like that over night. I'm not saying they won't speak to Calland, i'm sure they will but i just can't see it myself. I'm guessing he has another 2 games, of we play as bad in both our Easter games then something will probably happen.
From a club perspective though the money will have to be found, i appreciate people saying we can't afford to keep him but the reality is can we afford to get rid? Possibly not. I hope all the fans saying they will pay him out will send their cheques in to help the club if it does happen!
Also why get at Martin Hall, he isn't the coach, I'm sure he helps Calland but he isn't the coach. It is his job to attract players and he has done a great job in.
As for the drinking, if you have seen players drinking why not ring the club and report them? If not shut up because its just rumour spreading. I find all the drinking claims a bit frustrating because most people that speak about them are unwilling to give names and have heard from their best friends boyfriends dad!!!! The club can't punish players for drinking if they don't know its happening, afterall many of our players don't live in Halifax.

While I agree with you that Dave would be ideal for a coaching job I would have to vehemently oppose the erroneous assertion that he is a hot-head.
I can assure you that he has never, ever assaulted me while I have been in his company and despite being passionate and knowledgeable about the sport of rugby league I can only describe him as stoical and forgiving despite suffering some disgraceful behaviour.
I rate him as a man and a coach extremely highly but I am sure two of your players could impart better information,as could the majority,if not all,Castleford supporters
Please do NOT continue to repeat falsehoods.
Because you are wonderful supporters I wish you a successful 2010 and beyond.
( I was at Thrum Hall in the 80's when you won the Championship )

| I said after winning up at Barrow last season we were winning DESPITE Matt Calland and not because of him. This season we are worse than last, he is taking us backwards. With the squad of players we have this league is there for the taking but not with Calland in charge. The BOD should act now because i believe if they keep faith with the present coach their stated aim of SL in 2012 is just a sham and we are all paying our £15-£18 for nowt.

| We sacked our coach after 1 game last year. Trouble is, he'd already signed some poor players but Cullen was still able to make a marked improvement and win the NRC (albiet with some top quality loan signings).
Anyway, point being if your lot are convinced your players are up for it and good enough (and based on first half of last year you have to say they are) then you have to change the coach now. That isn't saying that Calland is a bad coach. There comes a time when what is needed is change, even the best coaches can just reach the end of the line with a group of players. MC could go on and become a great coach - just as Paul Cullen might after things fell apart at Wire. These things happen in sport, doesn't mean Calland is bad, just that he is wrong for Fax right now. Same as McCormack was wrong at Widnes last year.
BUT, the key difference is that the Widnes Board (well, Steve O'Connor) took decisive action right when the underlying problems manifested in a home defeat in the NRC to a lower league team (sound familiar??). He didn't wait till we got a pasting at home the next week, or the week after. The longer the Fax board leave it, the harder it will be for the new guy to turn it round.
Obviously, I'm speaking without an emotional attachment to Fax - apart from a slight soft spot as a I worked there for two years and I always like going to the Shay, but it's clear that these last two games have highlighted big problems that need to be addressed now, not in a week or two.
