I know it's only a friendly but there was a lot to get excited about from today.

Other than some great individual performances the commitment and energy levels were at a level I haven't seen for a long time.

Couple of questions, folks:

1. Anyone know what the attendance was today? Looked around 1,000 give or take but I'm usually a mile out.

2. What are the ages of Josh Barlow, Adam Robinson, Jim Gannon and Ryan Fieldhouse? I was trying to work out the average age of our squad but the Fax site doesn't give the ages of those 4. Without them the average age is 25 and we now only have 2 players over 30 (3 with Jim)

1566 was todays attendance.

I knew I'd be a mile out. That's pretty good for a Boxing Day friendly.

I understand he will be in Hosptal for a few days after shooting himself in the foot.



A bit dissapointed with the crowd, although I was also surprised at how few Keighley brought.
I think when everything comes togethrt we will have a very good team.

Have I missed something? What did their Chairman say/do?

Probably would have been easier to tell had they all been stood together as there seemed to be at least three separate groups of them in the South Stand and enough of them in the East Stand to 'call' a forward pass! Good crowd all in all though.

Very good performance from 'Fax though once you blew away the early cobwebs. I'd be surprised if Keighley more than half a dozen sets of six in the second half?!

To be fair despite the short distance to Fax it wasn't particularly easy to get over. There doesn't seem to be a bus service between Fax and Keighley anymore and no trains were running. I don't drive, so ended up coming on a minibus that was driven by our Chairman. I think word had got out that more than a few of the bigger names we've signed weren't playing either which I think discouraged a few from coming as well.

A bit disapointed with the crowd? This is as good as it gets for Halifax these days.

Everyone around me thought that was a decent crowd, there's always going to be reasons why people can't make it so if we can build on that through the NR Cup then hopefully we will be posting regular 2K plus attendances.

Yes Batley have gone sadly backwards, out played, out enthused by Dewsbury. the crowd though was un officially 2,887

Very impressed. Easy to see the hard work on the fitness side of things is paying dividends. Some of our forward signings look very good and thats the area we were obviously lacking last season. We may actually have some forwards who can bust a tackle this season. I didnt think Thackery and Handforth had particulary good games but did enough to show they are going to cause defences a lot of trouble next season especially now we have some players who are capable of running good lines. Obviously some of the new players put in good solid performances but i was very impressed with Craig Ashall he looks a really good signing, low centre of balance, strong, able to bust a tackle and also off load in the tackle like for Gannons try. Hopefully we have just seen a snippet of what is to come from him.

So really good performance but early days yet, plenty more to come hopefully.

Thackeray made a couple of mistakes but also lots of good work.Handforth has got a real gob on him,could hear some of what he was shouting from front of stand,needs to concentrate on the game not on gobbing at his teammates

How many home friendley's have Halifax played in the last 10 years and what was the crowds?

I would like to bet not many have been played in front of 1500 with a team in the same league

Exactly. A half back that dosnt talk? That would be crazy. Handforth was just what we lacked last season. I was actually impressed with how much talking and organizing you could see him doing on the pitch.

He had his own little noisy/boozy fan club too at the front left of the south stand, maybe they're some of the amateur club lads he coaches. He was straight over to chat with them at the full time hooter.
