| Thats the front page headline in courier today. Not great press for the club. The joke is that fc halifax take its main money spnning events to cedar court cos it houses 500 diners as oppose to the east stands 300.

| Can't blame town for taken events like that away from The Shay, they can probably make more money off the event as well by doing that.
However the 100k loss must show that the stadium is been badly run? perhaps the council need to look at the stadium management and make some changes, no doubt after a 6 month £25000 consultation

| 100k seems pretty darn massive!!! Unless it includes cost for finalising the new stand? I.e. Take hit on that now but will later recover? Surely that's just not a running & business loss?

| A question, what does to Shay offer outside of 'match day'? Just out of interest as I don't have a clue.
This is a potential problem for new stadium developments like Cas. As if your simply building 4 stands than aside from match days what money are you actually bringing in to help fund it all?
Starbug do you have any idea if LSV makes a profit or loss yearly? (not the rugby just stadium in itself).

Small 5-a-side football pitch, And Function/Meeting rooms,
The 5-a-side pitch has been well used, but I'd imagine the income is limited, no idea how well used the Meeting rooms ect are

| The LSV is providing various community services during the day eg Health surgeries, job clubs, disability services etc and has Hotel, 3G facilities, sports centre and 6th form college on site - also the Supermarket is under construction leaving just one or two further additions before the site is completed. Blackburn play reserve soccer but without SL the stadium will never generate income as a stand alone venture.
I know the stadium is without debt, but the council and profit dont tend to fit together imho.

The LSV site will be losing over a million pounds a year i'd guess , it includes a swimmimg pool , which are massive loss generators , the stadium will be losing hundreds of thousands , the only part that could see a profit will be the Leigh east site

Many councils have to provide facilities such as swimming pools in order to receive the full share of government money.

Correct, I was told once that per person swimming it costs around £8 to keep the pool running, yet they have to charge around half that. SO always going to make a loss

| Its free for U16s, was free for pensioners too but they stopped that.
Not sure about free swimming for all, think there may have been short term initatives but don't think Ive ever had a free swim in the past few years.

Can understand things like swimming pools, but in terms of extra facilities and 'modernising' the stadium. Does the extra council money cover costs too otherwise just still waisted?

| If £6m is spent on a stadium how long will it take 2000 fans 15 times a year to show a return - answer NEVER. 5% means interest at £300k pa
Stadium today outside of Premiership football need 2 sports to have a chance, any involving RL must either have a SL club or at least a soccer Championship club

| The Keepmoat actually made small profits in 2009 and 2010, £2000 in the case of the latter. Measly in the greater scheme of things, but a profit nevertheless

| whilst stadiums are run by council jobs worths, they will always struggle, there are howver some bigger queustions
Does the council want sport in Halifax, if yes it will have to pay for a Stadium, does sport add value to the community! And if it wnats a stadium to break even or make money they must run it comecially and not through commities who know nowt about nowt other than attending meeting on expenses and getting free cups of tea and cakes!
The shambles with the catering, how much revenue has been lost to the current system! i for one have not bought a single cup of t pie or burger in the new stand, due to the daylight robbery of prices, the whole system stinks of jobs worths! I used to get a cup on my way in in the skircoast and one at half time! manymany others have been lost for the same reason!

| The thing with the food is the Stadium doesn't lose revenue as such by not purchasing food. The catering company running the kiosks have already paid the stadium to run the kiosks, any profits/losses are the catering companies

| In the scheme of things £100k is not a lot.
If the Council got its act together £2k a week is easy to recoup with the opportunities that exist. They have no motivation to though. No one gets sacked if it doesn't make a profit.
The Victoria Theatre loses £450k a year but they call it a 'subsidy' and get a warm feeling offering up the arts to the mass population. Really they're just subsidising tribute bands.
There are many comparisons to be had, such as the theatre being rented out to non-profit making groups such as local orchestras and choral societies at a loss. Why is that any different to letting Siddal play a cup game for nothing at the Shay?

| Bring back SST who managed to run it at break even for years (even at times when both clubs were guilty at times of not paying their rent).
