| Ben Davies is injured so he won't be playing expect that young prop from Wigan will play some part along with the lad from dulls who we are giving a trial.

Not a surprise, His knee is made of biscuit.
Good player, thats not in doubt, but his ability to stay fit is questionable, he went off in our last game last season with his knee, its never going to go away, If he's fit then great, but I think he'll spend more time on the treatment table than on the field.
Hope I'm wrong

| You all seem to forget that in Harrison's Team Rettie is a shoe in. He loves him and I'm still trying to fathom out why...?? Based on the back line we now have Rettie shouldn't get anywhere near the side....

| Rettie was outstanding last year. It's up to others to knock him off his spot.

I agree. A lot of people seem to have a real down on Rettie and he gave his all every game yet people rave about Worrincy but he was less than impressive last year.

| Thought Sheriffe was a poorer winger than Rettie. There are others in the side who had much worse seasons than Rettie but never get singled out like he does. Mind you, some people see the game differently from others. One man's winger is another man's Dane Neirrinx

| I agree all entitled to an opinion. The difference for me is Worrincy is a match winner and I think has improved year on year. He seemed to me to get dropped at any given opportunity. I'm sorry LR but I can't agree that Rettie was outstanding last season. He's just not a stand out player for me.... Worrincy is. Funny how for a player so outstanding his name hasn't appeared on anyone's best 17 team sheet. Worrincy's has which says it all for me. Rettie ain't no winger IMO. But hey it's only my opinion....!!!

| I have said this before and quite frankly I don't understand Karls thinking (on this subject)
Rob was the first to sign a new contract, two years I think. He signed it just before the Sheffield game and didn't play in that game and wasn't played again last season. At first I thought Karl had left him out because of his torrid display away at Sheffield, thinking that Sheffield had sussed his weakness, but not to play again? Perhaps Rob has spent all off season under a high ball, but two things are critical for him this year, pressure under the high ball and getting a decent pass. Remember the basics of Rugby League? the scrum half passes the ball to the stand off, he makes a break and passes it to his inside centre who runs with the ball, passes to his outside centre who draws the defence and ROB blasts over the line.
It's not five drives and a kick!
In my humble opinion Reitty falls into last years tactics I would like to see a change in tactics which utilise wingers of class, step up Rob.
I mean no disrespect to Wayne who I acknowledge last year had a good year, I just think it's time to entertain.

| I agree Worrincy is a better winger but for me Rettie was better than Sheriffe and better than critics suggest. Why does no-one mention Tyrer's season? I thought it was dreadful and far more worthy of negative comment.

| I would have Worrincy in my team every day of the week. His work rate is fantastic and he has the ability to go the length of the field although I feel with Potts signing KH will go with Rettie and Potts. I also think that Tyrers place will be under real pressure this season as again Im not sure a lot of people have picked Heaton but he will be starting a lot of games and will be one of KH`s first names on the team sheet again leaving Tyrer to fight it out with Cowling and I only feel Heatons place will come under pressure if we complete the loan signing from SL.
Speaking to a couple of players they are saying there is a noticable difference at how quick the ball is getting moved this year compared to last season and things are a lot crisper by the sounds of it. Having 2 hookers with good distribution compared to none from last season in itself is going to make a huge difference.

| Worrincy is a winger, in my opinion Rettie is a forward playing on the wing, would he have scored the length of field try in the 2010 final? I think not and that's what your winger should be able to do, though it seems not in KH's eyes.

I think we might see a difference this year, see Gregg Florimos post above,

A quicker play the ball and some nifty halfbacks and hookers and I think Karl has signed them.

| Worrincy should be first choice winger for me. Scores tries (Thats what Wingers do!), works hard and has the fear factor- opponents are scared of him as give him a cm and he is gone. Yes he does make mistakes but then so do all wingers. I feel for me he is the best winger outside of SL.
Reittie is a workhorse and you cant knock his work rate. But he is not a finisher and doesnt create and he is not a player the opposition fear as he will not go the length of the field and nor will he create havoc. If you want 5 tackles and a kick game then yes reittie is the man
Potts is another who has the fear factor as he will fnish or has the potential to damage poor defence. Another like Worrincy and reittie who do the hard yards as well.
I want to see Fax entertain as well as win. For me Worrincy and Potts are our first choice wingers but not sure KH feels that way sadly

| ooppps just created a new thread for this......
Pretty impressive run out for the teams first outing I thought.
Some of the new lads really stood out and it looks like we have the makings of a pretty decent team with plenty of strength in depth. Cas had a pretty decent team out to start the game and we stood up really well against them and it was probably closer than the 18-4 scoreline suggested at that point with their first couple of tries looking dubious to say the least.
Both teams still have a few players to come in though and although we shouldnt get too carried away as Cas are going to be one of the lower SL sides again it was still probably a step up in intensity to what the players have been used to. Of the new guys Mennell and Kaye both had good games and the ball was much better from acting half than it has been, Mennell`s long ball for one of Potts tries was a good example.
Sam Brooks had a good game off the bench and I just wonder who is going to make way for him because unless he picks up an injury I would expect him to be in the 17 for most games. Simon Browns kicking game was superb and he found grass with nearly every single kick which at our level should make a big difference and his half back partner Johnson looks a right handfull and caused Cas a lot of trouble on numerous occasions. Gareth Potts can clearly finish there is no doubt about that and on todays showing its really hard to see Worrincy getting much game time. As a big fan of his that is quite disappointing as i was hoping the competition for places would do him good but he looked really lackluster today and Potts and Rettie are far and away in front of him in the pecking order.
Of the players from last season, Fieldhouse and Heaton were probably pick of the backs with Tyrer showing some good defence but also getting caught on a couple of occasions. I expect his place to be under real pressure with Cowling to come in and will struggle to get in if the loan centre comes in. Heaton looks to keep improving with good defence and attack apart from I just wish the coaching staff would help him with his passing which is one area that lets him down.
Our forwards were good again with Tonks leading the way, the other props went well and Manning pulled off a couple of great tackles in the second half and at times Adamson and Divorty caused them problems. Murrell was steady away and was of the pitch for a lot of the game but we already know how good he is and his enthusiasm seems to rub off on the other players.
Early days though but the signs were very encouraging.
