I made a point that Barrow have come from nowhere in 2 years, yer it may sound like jealousy, maybe it is alittle, but the point I made is valid - how have they done it? On the Chairman's money, end of, if you have been up to Barrow you can see that they are not that well supported to be able to afford to BUY sucha good team.
Fact.
All I cannot do is give you what the players are actually paid as we all know how that works in RL its a total mystery

But on the subject of Barrow ..... I think their reaching the Grand Final means its more vital than ever that we achieve the same ... not just from our point of view, but for the sake of the Championship as a whole.

The dream final would have been Halifax -v- Widnes, 2 clubs steeped in history with large "sleeping" fan bases. There would have been a big crowd at Warrington, SKY would have got excited, the neutrals would have tuned in.

But if Fev win .... we have a Barrow -v- Fev Final. Oh dear, not very glamourous eh? I can see the Final coming and going with a squeek and awful viewing figures.

And I'm NOT discrediting both Barrow and Fev's achievements, just saying they haven't the same "pulling power" in terms of attention from the general RL public.

So it's VITAL for the Championship we win on Thursday. And I'm sure all the other clubs' supporters will be behind us too. Up the Fax!!

what a load ov e , i suppose barrow has no history eh , how old r u ? its one of the oldest clubs in rugby league , that has never folded or gone bust and still own there own ground , check the history of barrow rugby league b4 u write e again , willie horn will be turning in his grave , just a little fella from barra also gb captain !

I DO know my stuff, knockon, and I can tell you the worst crowds at Wembley involved the likes of Barrow, Featherstone and Workington. And the record CC Final attendance? Yep, it involved Halifax.

Barrow were big in the 80s - they won the Lancashire Cup in '84 (

) and lost the Regal Trophy in '81. The whole of the RL world must have been quaking in their boots!

What a season this really has been for Barrow.

The on-field success, the ups and downs, the dissapointment and the ecstacy.

But the thing that has often given the most pleasure is reading some of the fairy stories on other clubs' forums about Barrow player salaries and salary cap, our Chairman's ego, impending bankrupcy, dirty looking shirts, dodgy floodlights and all manner of other stories borne from a position of complete, and total, ignorance of what Barrow RL is all about and how the club is run.

Welcome to the second tier of Rugby League. We're better than the poor buggers in Championship One but not as good as our superiors in Super League. Therefore, you have to learn a special kind of arrogance on these forums. It's difficult. It's taken some of us six years to master it but we've arrived this season i think. Belittle the club all you like. Established in 1875, we have never been bankrupt, own our stadium, been to 5 Challenge Cup finals, won 2 Lancashire Cups and produced many international players.

Oh, and we are currently in posession of The Championship League Leaders Shield



The only real lean times in the clubs' history were from 1991 - 2007/2008 (with a surprise NL2 Championship win in 2005).

You should care whats going on at Barrow before you get left behind, you thought only Widnes would be a threat to your SL bid, well now you have Barrow & Toulouse to worry about too.

FYI Sir Dessie of Furnessshire only helped to fund our success as our side has been 75% local produced untill this season as several quaility out of towners arrived.

Who is funding it now,,Let me tell you we have signed up approx 400 new lottery subscribers in the last few weeks thats nearly 20 grand per year by its self.

There is no one else a threat to ours or anybody elses SL bid other than Widnes. People shouldnt kid themselves that anyone else will get a look in.

Barrow know themselves that the Ground isn't upto scratch for a Super League Bid, That is the Achilles Heel for them, until they get that sorted they'll never have a chance.

Of course we know that. We're the fans that stand on the terraces there every 2 weeks or so, so we know better than anyone what state the ground is in. We don't need other teams' fans to keep banging on about it TBH.

There's 2 years yet to license applications. A lot can happen in that time and there are plans to redevelop the ground. Now we have 'ticked' the box (hate that phrase BTW), the wheels can be set in motion. For starters, I'm led to believe that the new floodlights (over and above SL standard) will be in situ for the 2010 season.

Unless Cas AND Wakey get booted out, the Yorkshire Championship clubs don't have a chance IMO. Just look at the number of clubs east of the pennines and then read the RFL's expansionist vision. The two don't sit together I'm afraid.

You mean the 3 World Cup Fijians who couldn't get Visa's because they had to sit an English exam (even though their first language is English)??

We had signed them on 2 year deals (and hold their RL registrations), so I suppose in theory they could arrive next season. Although I doubt it, as 2 of them play RU for Fiji now.
