Well, first game in two years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Conditions were like watching a game in the 70s/80s. Kept expecting Brendan Hill to come off the bench!
As for the team, great defensive effort and great fitness to keep going against a full time team. I actually thought we looked the sharper towards the back end of the game. In attack, too few options, suspect kicking at times and too many errors. However, we all need to remember they are a new team and it was clear to see they are still getting used to each other. As the season progresses I think a few teams will get a thumping from Fax as the plays gel and I honestly believe they will be in the mix barring unforeseen disasters (like HKR players on the teamsheet
).
Leigh deserved the win but only just and their scrum half really dictated play at times. Winger Kay, very quick and good foresight for some poor positional play by our winger and fullback at times. Still, strong performance from Fax. As for the ref keeping Fax in the game, seriously!! It will be interesting to see he penalty count. Laying on in the tackle to slow play down was infuriating and high shots galore. FuiFui who is a Parra legend of mine was lucky to stay on the pitch, so just be thankful the ref was wearing red rose tinted specs. He has piled on a few pounds since last season at Parra though, must be all that lobby he is eating.
Anyway, enjoyed the day despite not getting into the Three Pigeons due to a six deep, heaving mass of Leigh fans at the bar (scary, nightmare inducing sight and strange aroma
) and having to go to the Railway instead, where the beer incidentally is fantastic. Jokes aside, Leigh fans created a good atmosphere, something sadly missing from many games so good onya. Next game probably in a couple of years when hopefully we will be giving Wigan a tupping!
