It was odd while watching the Stainland Stags v Greetland All-Rounders fixture on saturday last weekend in which my nephew played opposite my son. There was a fair few from both sides of our family in attendance including me and my dad & some bright spark brought up the topic of senior (pro) refs from this district. Bloemy wasn't at the game himself due to refereeing commitments elsewhere on saturday.
Someone posed the question to my dad:
How is it Jim that since you retired from the pro game ( 1993/94 season to be precise ) nobody until Bloemy has gone on to ref at senior level ?
Now, there's a slight twist here because there has been one since my dad, a bloke called Nick Oddy who just happens to be my former brother-in-law, but I reckon he came under the Hudds refs society although he definately lived in Halifax during his spell as a senior referee. The same bloke was standing in for Bloemy on saturday as acting coach or something like that due to Bloemy's absence and it was his son playing scrum half for the Stags.
What an odd turn of events indeed !
I do happen to have my own opinion on why there haven't been any others pushing through from this district to senior grade but I couldn't possibly state why on a public forum, take out of that what you will.....
