If it was just a bit of swearing in the crowd, then yes. But this was swearing and abuse directed at an individual who was only there to support her son and the team he plays for. It was out of order and hardly fitting for the "Family Sport" image. Anybody who thinks this is acceptable behavious has got to be a complete self pleasurer.'"
I myself have been in the same situation when my old man was reffing, I don't condone it, I wasn't at Sheffield the other night & I hear similar things at most grounds, as I say, I don't condone it but you can't really prevent it happening.
I could write a book on some of the things that I saw/heard when I was with my dad when he was officiating, sometimes it would have been easy to react and take whatever comes your way, but that makes you an equal of the offenders. And on other occasions ie: The Boulevard in it's heyday, better just ignored !!!
I remember Dean Lawford's family suffering similar things when he played for Halifax by our own supporters in the Skircoat seats. One particular player of that period actually asked me if I knew who the culprits might be, sickening behaviour all in all.
Rugby league is a family game I believe is the slogan...
