Quote Mr Pippin="Mr Pippin"Comin from Milton Keynes for the game...how's the pitch and the weather??? Wasn't the town game cancelled due to water loggin?? That's like tree loggin with water!! Lol...'"
Apparently, there was a double-jeopardy with the footy match getting called off due to water-logged pitch on tuesday this week.
Part one goes something like this:
The footy club supporters have for a long time had dreams of being the first members of the Calderdale community to make use of the East stand facilities since we the squatters arrived a mere 10 years ago and were adamant that their wish would come true, so in their quest, they prayed for an awful winter/spring with lots of terrible weather and postponed matches meaning that their mounting fixture pile-up would guarantee that their odds of first use would increase. In other countries they have the equivalent and it is called a rain dance.
But they didn't take into account part two of the charade.
Part two:
As the RFL pantomime got wind of this, they permitted the Leigh club to remain in the championship after their season of woe last year and allowed them to avoid relegation by demoting GatesHull instead for their financial indescretions. To make sure the Leigh situation was fully utilised the RFL fixture computer spewed out the dates and venues as per normal and as fate would have it this weeknd was the given date, nothing sinister there one might think, but AHA .....
The Hilton Park hosepipe extensions were hooked up, the tap switched on and left running and on tuesday evening the surge of surface water magically made it's re-appearance, not at Hilton Park but at the Shay stadium, rendering the pitch useless for footy, a mere hour and a quarter to spare before the planned kick off.
Phew, that was a close run thing
