| I am not particularly interested in the whole Olympic circus, but couldn't help but notice the 'talent' of Zara Dampney, one of the GB Beach Volleyball players!
Not just eye candy...apparently she aspires to be a lawyer but has put her studies on hold to do the Beach Volleyball circuit for a few years.
I don't imagine she will have too much trouble finding a law firm to take her on.

| BoJo's ramblings:
Likening beach volleyball players as "wet otters".
I thought he was an educated bloke, surely he knows the difference between an otter and a beaver

A completely irrational comment especially as I think, I think, that Liz Armitstead races for a Dutch team, or at least spends an awful lot of time in Holland.
Anyway, theres a proper journalist interview and personal background piece here that makes for nicer reading ... [urlhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/cycling/9436277/London-2012-Olympics-Lizzie-Armitsteads-silver-in-the-road-race-inspired-Britains-hopes-and-cheers.html[/url
PS - her training hill would be the back road out of Otley up onto the Chevin, the bitch, I've never been able to ride up that bas'tad of a hill even in my younger years its always been a get-off-and-push moment

Given that for much of the 1930s they supported Oswald Mosley and his blackshirts and found much to be admired in Herr Hitler, do you seriously expect that happening anytime soon? Communications technology and the way we receive our news may have moved on, the arrogance and editorial style of the Wail has remained pretty stable

It was pulled just after I tried to add my comment, don't know whether there was a correlation though. I laid in to the author, the editor and propreitors. I think they were starting to get the message though by that stage!

It did, once, on Monday 22 January 1934, in an editorial written by that champion of the extreme left-wing, Viscount Rothermere

Although according to the drama on BBC1 last week, Dr Who did something similar in 1948

they haven't been accused of cheating, they have been accused of not playing their best, it's the equivalent of match fixing, it just so happens that both teams were trying to fix the same outcome. I expect both teams to be disqualified (if they haven't by the time I finish typing this!)

Bradley Wiggins was born in Belgium of an Aussie Dad and an English Mum.
Just wait until the Wail realises that.

ah, apologies
amazing how nobody has mentioned the immense achievement of the womans pair winning gold, or the first men's team gymnastics medal in 100 years, where I to do so, no doubt I would be directed to "other sports" so that the usual suspects can maintain their ire at anything positive going on in the UK.

Don't know about anyone else, but I've always said I have no problem (at all!) with the sport. And I have tweeted my thoughts on the medals today etc.
It's the total crap surrounding it that is enough to do my head in.
Still, at least central London being a ghost town and businesses with a chronic lack of customers* will give Gideon his next excuse.
And in the meantime, we now have Boris caught on a zipwire over Victoria Park.
He'd make a lovely piñata.
* One of the owners at the small, independent cafe where I go for lunch every day, just off Euston Road, was just telling me that they've never had such little custom since they opened, years ago. Museums, galleries, restaurants, theatres, hotels, shops – all seeing far, far less custom. And we were told that the Games would be a boost to the economy, not to the recession.

Decadence. That's how they carried on in Greece and Spain until recently.
The lack of trade is good for the customer though. Only this morning in Central London a cafe had a sign up offering a croissant and large hot drink for £1.65. I was straight in. Beats my usual Costa £2.45 just for the drink.
