They are a bit more twee and folky I would suggest, but he brought 'My Mother Was A Chinese Trapeze Artist' across from Tarkio to The Decemberists and it appeared on their 5 Songs EP and in my eyes, or should that be ears, Tarkio's version is ever so slightly better.

Yep. Massive fan. Saw him early last year at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds which turned out to be my favourite gig of the year.

Talkin' Lion Blues is an incredible song.

I don't know if you've been to Fibbers before, but they've put the stage at the opposite end which is confusing when you've known Fibbers for a while, and where the stage used to be it's a "chill out" area. Almost like they are trying to turn it into a nightclub.

I heard about him last year but ignored him as my friends who'd listened/watched him said it was a white man playing blues. Which reminds me of Eric Clapton so it put me right off! I'd say it's more Ragtime/New Orleans than straightforward blues.

His live show with the full band is brilliant. He also spent about 30 minutes telling a bunch of stories from the road. If you ever get the chance to see him, do not miss out.

Preston on Thursday for me. Looking forward to the support act Y Niwl too. Welsh surf instrumentalists who should be good live.

Spent a good hour last night learning Cripple Creek for the next open mic we go to.

The video of them with the Staples Singers doing the Weight, that is a musical consortium that just cannot met. Much like the whole of the Last Waltz (Ringo Starr finishing out of time on "I shall be released" aside).
