| Quote ="Saddened!"What do people think of Illumiroom by Microsoft? Looks absolutely fantastic me thinks.
For those that aren't aware, it was demoed by Microsoft at a recent conference. It uses a projection system to extend the viewing area from your TV, to your entire room. The room is scanned by Kinnect and the game projected onto your room. So when playing a game, instead of the screen stopping where your TV does, it would continue. The obvious games to benefit would be FPS titles, you would have a realistic field of vision, able to see enemies off to the side with ease. Another good example would be driving games, where you would be able to see further down the track and have the trackside pass on either side of you as you drove, making it feel much more immersive. Football games like FIFA, you would be able to see the positions of players off screen etc. Quite what you would do in the daytime is another matter, but it certainly looks a very interesting idea.'"
It looks brilliant. I'm wondering If they will bring it out on this generation with Kinect or leave it to go with the launch of the next gen. It looks very good in theory though. The clip I saw online looked unreal. But whether it actually works that well in reality will be another matter.

| That does look pretty smart, although I'm not sure you could realistically gain any competitive advantage in a game by using it. The video I just watched showed it mainly providing additional aesthetics for games rather than expanded fov. The brief fps demo they showed did let you see more of your surroundings, but obviously not in a sharp enough resolution to make much of a difference.
Still, it looked impressive, and if it enhances the experience as a whole then it can only be a good thing for us.

I can't see any reason why it shouldn't. They apparently demoed it at CES this week and it was apparently impressive. They decked a mock up house using beige curtains and heavily furnished with cupboards and plants etc and it still worked well.
It's possible it will come out on this generation I think, the demos are clearly using a 360. A lot of the work Microsoft have been doing with Kinnect, Xbox Live, media streaming and TV network integration, Smartglass etc has been brought out on 360, but you can tell it's just a test bed and to familiarise people with them before it's all featured on the next Xbox. It would depend when the new Xbox is out, if it's this year as has been rumoured, I can't see them getting this out in time. If it's next year, it's possible.

Be a bit pointless really with the new consoles supposedly being shown at E3 and coming out for Christmas this year.
Wouldn't be surprised to see 2 versions of the new Xbox - one with Windows RT like the surface and one with a full version of Windows 8 like a PC/Laptop and the upcoming Surface Pro.

Speaking of which, are we expecting Fallout 4 or whatever the next in series may be called?

| Never played the Fallout games, what am I missing?
Are they slow paced ie alot of walking about talking to people etc? I know Far Cry 3 (which I love) isn't exactly BO2 pace but it's hardly a slow game although there is alot of walking to be done.

| Fallout 4 is rumoured to be coming out. Fallout 3's brilliant, it can be slow paced if you decide to explore every little part of the game, but if you crack on the main storyline and side quests that come with it, it moves along quite quickly. Also, some of the choices you make during the game affect your karma which determine whether or not certain quests are unlocked, so the storyline isn't set in stone.

| Love the Fallout series. New Vegas is good too.
Pretty much the same game engine as Skyrim so if you like that you will like Fallout too.

| Only thing i've heard regarding Fallout 4 is a quote from somebody involved with the series, stating that 'the Mojave was an interesting place to visit, wasn't it'?. Maybe 4 will be set in Vegas area too

Apparently they've been looking around Boston and doing research there so it might be Boston based.

| Just finished Far Cry 3, fairly enjoyed some of the missions and would recommend it for the reduced price you can pick it up at.
Still got Forza to get on with, and Hitman to start. Having a look at whats coming out in the next couple of months there doesn't seem to be anything I particularly want.

| I've tried replaying VII but I find the quality of graphics diminishes my memory of the game, which is disappointing. Easily my favourite game of all time though.

That's something that really doesn't bother me. I've still got quite a few PS1 and PS2 games that I enjoy playing, even though the graphical quality is crap.

| Think I'm gonna give Far Cry 3 a go. From youtube clips it looks in some aspect's similar to red dead redemption. I really liked RDR mainly because i managed to complete it despite being rubbish at games. Is far cry 3 "difficult"?

Too easy, so in that sense it's exactly like RDR

| Anyone got an opinion on the rumoured specs for the PlayStation 4 and NeXtBOX? According to rumours the PlayStation will have a more powerful processor arrangement with a third more power than the Xbox one. But the Xbox will have double the memory of the Playstation with 40% more memory available to games and three times the memory available to the operating system.
So which of those differences is likely to be significant if any? The current consoles seem pretty similar with the PS3 more powerful than the 360, but they have never managed to exploit that extra power to any meaningful degree up to now and the 360 is arguably the better all round console.

A third? 50% more powerful.
PS3 now has less RAM which is apparently why they can't have party chat and has an older graphics processor but still manages to churn out better graphics on the exclusives compared to the 360 exclusives and even Skyrim which Bethesda have admitted they can't even code properly for the PS3 looks a lot better.
PS4 will still have more than enough RAM to run what it needs and most places are reporting it has 4 but some developers are saying they got shipped with units that have 8-16gb as opposed to 4 - also don't get drawn in by a simple number, the RAM timings will be more important. The use of an AMD A3 is a bit poor though, that isn't even the best APU AMD do now so by the end of the year it will be massively out of date.
Both consoles should go for more exclusives this time because the ports are what has held both back, churning out COD every year on a 7 year old engine is just boring. It will also give consumers a reason to pick whichever system and will allow devs to work towards tuning a game to specific hardware and not what they do now of design on xbox and just port.
What I can see happening is there being multiple types in different price ranges for both systems with the Xbox as I've said before having a Windows RT version and then a full Windows 8 version, which the amount of RAM reserved for OS seems to indicate too.
The differences with the rumoured spec - PS4 will be able to render maps quicker and keep a higher FPS with multiple characters on screen, Xbox will be able to multitask better (i.e. party chat).

I'm enjoying playing through it, and if you like your action games then it's definitely worth checking out, but I suspect it might be wise to wait a few weeks if you don't want to pay full price.
These completely single player games tend to drop in price pretty quickly.

I got Darksiders 2 for £15 as a Christmas present. Enjoyed it a bit, mostly because I enjoyed the first. Don't think they really improved it enough and used a lot of 'dross' to fill parts of the game and make it longer, whilst the other was generally full of quality.
I never played all of the old DMC games but I fancy starting this new series. I'll probably wait a few months as said, I'm not desperate for it or anything.

I was put off getting Darksiders 2 when found it was about 60 hours long. I found the first one tedious at times and that about only about 20-30 hours long, so I really can't see what they could add to make me want to invest that amount of time into the game.

Some things they've added are better. They've added some decent RPG elements to the game that make it more interesting, but what makes it longer is ridiculously repetitive. There's a lot more travelling involved, you're often running/riding around for long periods without achieving much. Most of the 'challenges' involve you finding somebody you need, then having to run around to get that person 2/3 things they need. It really is repetitive, especially when you throw in the boring puzzles. The first one, as you say, was tedious enough, this one hasn't built on the other game's strengths, which is a real pity IMO.
