It's certainly helped our export market !
(well it would have if we actually manufactured anything in the UK)
Unfortunately, all imported goods have increased in price by over 10% and we wait for these prices to be passed on to the consumer, deep joy.
On the plus side, the demand for foreign holidays has reduced so, that will help the UK economy

It's up to people to start buying British more often. There are plenty of companies out there if people can be bothered to look. Unfortunately we live in an age where people would rather spend their hard earned money on easily accessible foreign crap.

Are you serious ?
Primark, on of the fastest growing and largest stores on the high street, sell very, very little (if anything) that is manufactured in the UK and even with some currency led inflation, the UK is in no position to compete with China, India, Indonesia etc, etc.
The UK population buy on price above all else and apart from the better off members of society, the vast majority cannot afford to buy British (even if UK made goods were available).
Have a look around your house and see what you can find that is made over here, it will be interesting to see what you find.
Granted some products may become slightly more competitive if they are being made for export but, where are the raw materials going to come from to make these items ?
The UK has run a massive trade deficit since the middle of the last century and although this may be offset by our substantial banking/finance services, the UK is clearly vulnerable to increasing prices from overseas.

| I'm not for one minute suggesting that 'everything' can be bought British or locally but there are still plenty of things that can be which keep more money in the local and national economy.
I hate Primark with a passion. Cheaply made, cheaply sold and cheaply thrown away with no other goal than fast fashion and profit. The fact it is one of the fastest growing retailers makes me feel nauseous and reflects the morals of today's throwaway society where nothing is valued. I was always taught to save up, buy well buy once and look after the things I bought. Probably the reason I still wear items of British made clothing from the 1990s!

Isn't this just a stigma attached to buying British though?
I know people to whom the mere mention of local business, hand-made, farm shop or farmer's market has them in a total fit of rage.

And equally, I know people to whom the prospect of buying artisanal eggs with chicken $hit still on them is a distant dream; people buy what they can afford, and apart from a privileged few, don't have the luxury of considering provenance.

Going slightly off topic that could make a whole thread in itself. In an economy built on credit and debt I'd say it's quite the opposite.

Just imagine the level of debt it they had bought British made goods
Seriously though, as a nation, we have been encouraged to source from the cheapest nation and in my trade, we have seen goods move from being manufactured in the UK, to Portugal, to China and slowly to India (although the EU put a 20% anti dumping tariff on Indian produced goods).
Ironically, the anti dumping tariff has done nothing to save the Portugese manufacturing base and they have suffered in exactly the same way as the UK did 30 years ago.
We keep hearing that the UK should concentrate it's manufacture on more technical or innovative products but, there just isn't enough of this "high value" manufacture to create employment for 30 million people.

It's positive news in your eyes, but "pushing ahead" is a bit of an exaggeration.
Whilst the reasons as to why people voted how they did has been done to death, the Immigration issue was the boss card, yet the new "Leader" has already changed the script.
When will it sink in, a number of rich individuals wanted out & hey-presto they've achieved their goal, ironically thanks to the poorest of society.
I was in my late teens, early twenties when Thatcher was in power, so I really do remember what the Tories were like. I just thank my lucky stars we were still in Europe then, could you even dare to imagine where this country would've gone.
Maybe we'll get to see.

How many rich individuals wanted us to remain in the EU? So many are now going to the end of the gravy train. The EU benefits the political class but the working classes got left behind. The vote for Brexit may have been a vote for uncertainty but at least it is a chance for change.

Sure there are going to be changes, but without the E.U. why would you believe the "working classes" are going to get a better deal?
Most of the employment law that protects workers has been through European directives, do you think any new rights will be implemented post Brexit?
The hard right of the Tory party have been trying to get out of Europe since day one, & now with the support of the disillusioned lower class they have achieved their goal - oh the irony.
Anyhow, what's the next referendum topic going to be, now we're heading down the Pre-2nd World War Germany route?
I'll go for the re-introduction of Capital Punishment, with a seventy percent result in favour.
Go Britain.

Do you really see the hardened lumpenproletariat of the UK heading off to Norfolk for four months to pick vegetables?

| I realise that the leading Brexiteers have already admitted the immigration control subtext was basically a lie, but are we still getting the extra £ 300m+ a week for the NHS, or has that gone the way of the immigration claims too?
My bet is that we 'leave' the EU sometime in the next ten years, for some kind of affiliate status, which gives us access to single market. But in return we still need to pay the same level of net contribution we do now, we still need to have freedom of movement (there might be some token concessions about needing to have job before they come) , oh and to access that single market we'll need to be compliant with the EU law we no longer have any say in. But we will be officially OUT, even if OUT isn't what the Brexiteers thought they were getting.

Depends whether they are guaranteed the actual four months work and get paid a wage they can live on for doing it.
