After processing their application, they will either be granted asylum or, deported.
It was a relatively easy,, whilst we were member of the EU to send them back to France, or wherever it was in Europe they originated from as this was what the EU members agreed.

The majority are economic migrants making a journey that takes them through multiple safe countries giving them ample opportunities to claim asylum before they even reach France ,why do they choose to pay £5 grand then to make the dangerous crossings?

The UK, as a civilised country, has a responsibility to take in refugees from war-torn or destroyed and dangerous countries. The handful coming over by boat are a tiny pecentage of the number of displaced people in the world. The absolute terror they cause the red-faced, anti-British, anti-humanity brigade should be no impediment to us doing the right thing. Even the Tories used to believe that before they became a white nationalist party.

We are already failing to pull our weight, not least because our ill-advised military interventions over decades have contributed to the instability that many are escaping from.

I don't think many would be against people fleeing war or persecution being taken in by the UK ,its the economic migrants which are the majority that's the problem, if they want to come then go through the correct ways ,apply for a Visa, that way we know who is coming in and the have the necessary skills to add to our economy

I'm arguing the point that the vast majority coming over in the boats are not fleeing war or persecution, even sans frontiere moved out of the camps in and around Calais because they realized that there was no genuine refugees only sub saharan economic migrants .
As a country we will always need immigration, but we need the right type ,people who will bring skills that we are desperately short of
