| Quote ="Biff Tannen"You may not agree with it, but Remainers need to start accept the result now. you lost the vote which we were all told many times to be once in a generation by all at the top. there is no going back. and the with all the party in fighting and crucial negotiations that will be going on for the foreseeable the country needs to get behind whoever is to lead us into our future, which will be out of the EU.'"
Not quite - the nauseating Farage himself said in the run-up, when it looked like a close Remain win, that we should go again.
"The question of a second referendum was raised by Mr Farage in an interview with the Mirror in which he said: "In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way. If the Remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it."
Cameron didn't help matters by dismissing that suggestion, presumably because he was so sure of a win, but the fact remains that with a majority of just 1.9% and a groundswell of buyers remorse, the country is now divided - literally in the case of Scotland - and since the predictions made by the much-maligned 'experts' are starting to come true, and the Leave campaign have dramatically dialled back on their main campaign issues, it would be in the best interests of the UK to revisit the process. It was, after all, an advisory referendum, so it's not a done deal. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are more twists to this before the button is pushed to trigger Article 50.

He did, but it would have been shrugged off as we all know. Cameron and Osborne would be gloating and it would be claimed the people had spoken and business as usual. There would have still been a lot of unhappy people and protests of course, as there are now with the remain camp but there wouldn't have been another referendum.
If article 50 isn't enforced and the Brexit camp screwed over then this country will be in bigger poop with civil unrest and revolt than it ever would be were it to be enforced imo.

But that's perfectly sensible! Without the UK, only Ireland has English as a main language. Why would the other 400 million people carry on using English?

I'll give you the first one, although nobody knows the full story by the sound of the article, but the second one is classic media twisting in action. The outcome of telling three youths like that would have been the same if they had been told to mind their language by anyone, it's just the nature of the reply that would have been different. Morons like this would have singled out anything to have a go back whether it be age, gender, race or if the person happened to be wearing glasses. I'd hazard a guess had it been me telling them to pipe down, the reply wouldn't have been "thank you kind sir for pointing out the inappropriate nature of our language on a packed tram, have a good day", I'd have more likely got a "f off you speccy ****". Incidents like this happen all the time, it's just now the media have an angle to come at it from and stir it up even more.

| For those who are interested in reality, you may note that there is now open discussion in France and Germany of how the City will have its "passporting" removed as a central plan of -ANY- post-Brexit settlement.
The City's financial services industry is the largest single export we have, and we're running record trade deficits already.
If we do this, it is going to go, and our whole economy with it.

Ah yes, but at least we've taken back control; of what, no one seems quite able to say, but at least the recession will be an *English* recession, with *English* job losses and an *English* programme of public sector spending cuts that will make George Osborne's austerity measures look like all your Christmas mornings rolled into one.
Facts don't seem to be very welcome in the Farage-esque post-Brexit gloatfest that some people on here seem to be peddling; but well done for trying.

Just because it is the higher percentage does not mean all though does it. Far from it TBH, so it doesn't make your statement fact at all. The disregard of the working classes and elderly is precisely why we have the situation we do today.

So because the leave vote was a higher percentage (just) doesn't make that fact then? Great, we can have another referendum and then have some sensible rules about voting age.
The people who voted out will feel no effects by the time it comes to change.

Yes lets just keep having referendums until the remain side gets the result they want.

As it was an advisory referendum there's no constitutional reason why it should be valid, also MP's and the Lords can vote it out, which they should.
We'll see what actually happens in 10 years or so.
And I am no "pal" of yours.

| IMO I think there isn't a politician out there other than Farage who would trigger article 50 right now. It would be political suicide to do so and who would take a gamble on their career? Cameron has said he wont do it and the official leave campaign people have said there is no rush. Whoever succeeds Cameron has to either trigger it and send the economy into probably a depression or risk the wrath of the leave voters and not trigger it at all. Either way the new Prime Minister is between a rock and a hard place. Maybe a third option would be to trigger another referendum. This would while enraging leave supporters give them a bit of time to assess the situation properly. However this may also p**s off the EU as they would want some stability.
As I said, rock and hard place.

Indeed. We're leaving.*
However, the direction we leave hasn't been determined yet and will be subject to democratic influences. Very possibly a general election in the near future, or at least the prospect of one in ~4 years. My preference is one soon, so whoever is negotiating has had their plan subjected to democratic scrutiny. Nobody currently has a mandate for Brexit light and nobody has a mandate for a Full English ClusterFarage.
Pretty much anything could happen. My best guess is that we'll get Brexit light, drawing on support from the significant remain minority, and moderate leavers. The core Leave voter is likely in for a disappointment, if they had hopes for doing much beyond reminding the country they're still here and they're unhappy.
*One minor caveat to that. If the lib dems campaign on a pro-EU platform, make even a limited comeback and hold the balance of power, they could give a not-that-keen-on-Brexit Conservative or Labour party, a way of... exploring all the options. A lot of fury would be directed at the lib dems in this scenario, but not for the most part by people who might vote for them in any case.
Basically, the democratic will of the people should not be overturned or amended - unless by the democratic will of the people. And that doesn't require a second referendum.

It should be valid because it is 'a once in a generation Vote'...'no going back' which is what we were told. Anyone with the balls to veto that now will create mayhem, but we will see.

Intelligent use of language, as expected for pointless people who cannot have a debate. I hope brexit ruins your pension and you can keep supporting the BNP UKIP agenda. When did you last do a days work, or pay your own rent?

But we've been told lots of things during this shameful period in British politics - none of which are turning out to be true; that the NHS would be showered with money, that the borders would be closed to EU migrants, and that economic (so called) experts didn't know what they were talking about. So I guess there's precedent for creating mayhem - that's what we're experiencing right now.
Fwiw, I think Mild Rover has it about right - there is no mandate for the Brexit that you'll actually get rather than the one you were promised - which you definitely won't get - so it wouldn't be beyond the pale for a general election to be called to achieve that mandate; the difficulty of that of course is that the Tories would lose, thereby spoiling Boris' jolly wheeze to have a crack at the PM job.
The Lib-Dems may well hold the key to salvaging what at present, is a total disaster.

Quite right it is going to rumble on and on. Lets all be honest, nobody knows how it is going to end up it is all guess work and speculation.
I'm Pretty certain there won't be a second referendum though but we will have to see.
