Start>Run> and type msconfig and hit enter, go to the start up tab and deselect anything that you really HAVE to have run at startup.
When requested, reboot.
Once your PC has rebooted clear out your C drive of temp files and all the gubbins that collects there, right click on the C drive in explorer, choose properties, general tab and click on Disk Cleanup, delete everything it finds.
If that doesn't fix it just shout.

BlackBerry playbook going cheap now. Anyone used one? What's it like as a stand alone tablet? Don't have a BlackBerry phone so I know I wouldn't be getting its full potential. Just unsure if it was worthwhile

thanks

If you have a Blackberry phone then they are OK, if you don't you won't get Blackberry mail. Apps are limited due to the small userbase and I wouldn't be buying anything Blackberry until they are financially more stable.

Amazon are a bit cheaper, good reviews on this model, read reviews for a couple of tips, i.e only hold pairing button for between 3 and 8 seconds.

Keep your anti virus selected, soundman is your soundcard so select that too, if you use AOL as your ISP then keep AOL Dial, most other stuff you can just start when you need it.

| Just tick bullguard and soundman for now, see how you go.
Any of those services will start as you need them rather than run in the background all the time.

Just to be clear, once plugged in and paired these will extend the range of my wireless connectivity? Sorry to sound like a technophobe but I'm a little uncertain as to what they do now!

No. Those will use your power cables to extend your network, plug one into a power point close to your router, run a network cable to it then plug the other anywhere you want a network connection, plug a network cable into that and your laptop/PC and away you go. You could then plug another wireless router into the second socket but I've not seen it done without a whole heap of pain.

No, not wireless connectivity, but as BG says, connect by cable as in pic below. You can get wireless ones but a bit more expensive.

I get you now. I think a wireless option is probably better as it is for use with iPhones and iPad. Something like [url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00472MMC6/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnkthis[/url perhaps?

Yes, that advertises* what you want.
*I only say advertises as I haven't used them personally but I've no reason to think they won't work. I have used the wired ones and to be honest, they're what I'd go with, with a wireless access point at the the other end to get the same result.

| So I have a bit of money to spend after christmas and I was thinking about getting a new iPod touch or an iPad. I already have a 3rd generation iPod touch which I've had for 2 years, but it's only 8gb and I could do with more memory. I'm a bit wary about buying a 4th generation as it's a lot of money for a small upgrade, but after looking around it seems as if there may never be a 5th generation touch, let alone anytime soon. So this led me to looking at ipads. Does anyone own an iPad and have any feedback and also does anyone have any idea of when a iPad 3 will come out and how it'll be an improvement on the 2nd.

| How is an wanting a replacement ipod relevant to an ipad? Or do you simply have money to burn and there's no suitable mp3 player available yet so you may as well buy an ipad?
In any case, I would recommend not buying an ipad at all, unless you have some particular desire to use a mobile internet device that is locked down, expensive, requires you to only use one hand and has a touch screen keyboard.
If you just want a mobile internet device, get a laptop.
As for the ipod, I'd suggest simply buying a different brand, more memory, less cost, better product.

I'd like a new iPod touch as mines quite old and slow and I wouldn't mind more memory. I use it for a lot more than music so I wouldn't want an mp3 player. I've already got a laptop but I was just looking into the idea of an iPad. The reason I'd get an iPad is if there was no new iPod touch coming out anytime soon. Have you had a bad experience with apple products or do you just hate them on principle?

Serious question because I'm curious - if you already have a laptop, why do you want an iPad and do you see them as different devices with different purposes, would you still use both of them and would they be under different circumstances ?
Just going back a few pages, still watching netbook prices but the Jan sales haven't seen any price drops since the pre-xmas rates

| To be fair I've always thought ipads were a bit pointless. It's completely unnecessary and very expensive, but it would still be nice to have. After a bit more research I might wait till the kindle fire comes out in the uk as it seems to be much better value and it's done very well in America.
My laptop is mainly used for work and research more than anything else. I do use it for a few other things but I don't go on it too much these days. An iPad would be a sort of round the house replacement for my touch. I do a lot of Internet browsing on my touch and a play games a bit. For me the iPad would be used a lot, so it wouldn't be really be a waste of money. But the £400 price tag really puts me off.
