Has somebody from the other side of the country, who has visited Hull on many occasions for both work and pleasure purposes, I'd say the main problem the city has suffered from is its geographical location.

As an actual town or city, it is no better or worse than the majority of other similarly sized places around the country, its just that it is very isolated from what many might consider the heart of the country - Travelling across the M62, once you pass Pontefract, its all quite desolate, (apart from the stop off that's Goole!), and reaching Hull is almost like entering a new country.

I quite like it though - Its nothing special, but the majority of the locals I have met are genuine and friendly, and the publicity and money that this award will bring can only be good in helping the profile of the city for the future.

I live under a Warrington postcode but nowhere near Warrington.

So Hull win city of culture and lo and behold some in the East Riding want to be involved.
Yet as soon as anyone mentions moving the boundary so they are in Hull's boundary almost all of them act as though someone has insulted their mother.

Sounds like a gloryhunter from the 80's - Wigan has its own postcode, Warrington only covers Warrington/Widnes/St Helens, so I'm guessing you are from one of those areas and simply just jumoed on the Wigan bandwagon when you were winning everything every season back in the 80's and early 90's?...

None of it is untrue is it?
I know numerous people in East Yorkshire (Hessle, Anlaby etc) who look down their noses at Hull.
Yet the city of culture is for the wider area we are being told.

Not quite. Had a Wigan post code up to the age of 22 when I moved a couple of miles down the road and crossed the postal boundaries. Plus my father is from Haydock, traditional Wigan supporting territory until the St. Heleners started encroching. That too has a Warrington post code.

Hull's a dump, the best thing about it are the roads out, which is why I left at 18

Golborne is mainly Wigan fans with a sprinkling of Warrington, St Helens and Leigh fans.

the FACT is that Hessle, Anlaby etc. ARE IN EAST YORKSHIRE

They probably don't want associating with Bransholme, Orchard Park, Longhill, Greafield, Bilton Grange, North Hull and Boothferry Estates, Gipsyville, Hessle Road, Anlaby Road, Holderness Road, Preston Road...........
But they are stuck with Withernsa.
