| Quote ="Sal Paradise"I wasn't for one minute suggesting otherwise - but in ICU they deal with several patients but don't change their PPE especially the senior clinical staff. It was just a suggestion for a short term solution to the PPE issue - it seems we have Nightingales everywhere with huge amounts of empty beds and no doubt staff with little to do. Perhaps a more controlled environment would protect the vulnerable - but I get your point.'"
The staff are assigned to particular patients (I was under the impression something like 1 nurse per 2 patients if possible currently?). As the patients already have the virus I'll guess (and it is that) that they're not as much worried about transmitting from person to person in ICU.
However, centralising multiple people in 1 location, and 1 of them having the virus but you dont know, then going working with another person in that environment using the same PPE wouldn't be a great idea? Although centralising all the people who require care in one location and it spreading like wild fire wouldn't wither I would have thought?
They also change their PPE kit after each session and if they have a break after say 4hrs they remove all that kit, then put new kit back on before going back in?
I see you mention nightingale beds and staff with nothing to do, where is that info from?
And back onto the PPE subject, I do wonder how some hospitals who are coping with staff shortages, would have coped for PPE if those nurses/doctors had been available to work. I guess theyd have needed more?

Thank you for that - now it makes more sense - you can see why we are going through PPE at such a rapid rate

One trust said they were using 70,000 items of PPE a day that simply get incinerated - wow it that really the best use of the earth's resources?

| My first thought was that is a hell of a lot of patients, but anyway.... a good question about Earths resources would be "why have people been chopping down trees for 150+ years to print Tory propaganda ?"

Your own post that shows Lincolnshire usage shows they use over 70K items per day - and I wouldn't have thought Lincolnshire would be a particular populated trust?
As for using the earth's resources, I would suggest there are hundreds and thousands of other "Waste of Earth's resources" that need to be looked at before worrying about this.

I would say its appropriate to the population it serves - Leeds has two hospitals for c500k Bradford has one for c250k - 70k a day seems in the ball park for most units.

| The report into the actions of this government will be interesting reading if it is ever released or will it be bogged down in various committees like many others.
The longer it goes on the failures of the government just continue to come to light.

As I said it has 4,000 beds and they have turned away 50 - does that say they have capacity issues or staffing issues - seems even if they had the staff they would have thousands of empty beds

Lack of staff means they cant transfer patients there.
Surely that means that current hospitals are running hot?
Wonder how many staff are off with the virus who may not have been of theyd had correct PPE or if wed taken the virus seriously, earlier, meaning less transmission.
Saw the video last night of Boris at the Feb 3rd event he attended with leaders of industry.
Very interesting

| I had not realised but the government cannot even be bothered to employ a sign language specialist, so much for we are all in this together. I also agree with Harmen that if Johnson is fit enough to speak to his mentor Trump and the queen he should also speak at PMQ’s or do we think he is once again avoiding scrutiny.

I am sure there are some but I would suspect far more are off due to infections in their household contracted by their partners/children. Its no surprise that BAME make up a big chunk compared to their % of the population due to generally more inhabitants in each house and a genetic disposition to type 2 Diabetes and Heart issues.

He didnt seem aware that care home deaths aren't being registered in the official toll, like everybody else does.
Help us, he's only the present governments Health Secretary.
