You became mentally ill after suffering a physical illness. That is not the same as 'spiritual benefit'. The very idea of inflicting that degree of trauma upon a child in order to make his father a more obedient follower is one so callous only a sociopath could find it remotely acceptable.

There have been cases of people with AIDS making a full recovery. I'm not saying God performed a modern day miracle, but it happens.
