I've got a Creative (Zen X-Fi2) which IMO is probably the best mp3 player I've ever had. All depends what you need.

| I honestly can't see why most people would even consider buying a dedicated MP3 player given how well phones do in this regard these days.
Any half decent smartphone will provide a perfectly adequate music player experience and the top level Android handsets in particular will probably well exceed them.
The original ipods were so successful I think most companies didn't put much effort into their MP3 player efforts.

Which is exactly the reason my wife has asked for an MP3 player; she uses her phone at the moment but complains about the battery life.

I've no idea if they still make them but I've got a Sansa Fuse, it's alright, think it's 4gig with a micro SD card slot so expandable.
It more or less lives in the car as a very small equivalent of the old CD multi changer.
I've probably had it about four years and I've never had a problem with it.

| Dunno if this is the right place...
Looking to get some new in-ear headphones for Christmas. Anything in the region of £20-£40 will do. Got some Sennheiser CX300-IIs at the moment which are pretty good for what I paid (£15), but they're just starting to fall apart a bit and I wouldn't mind something with an even better sound quality and a bit of an upgrade. Anyone got any recommendations??

Mainly music on the iPod while I'm out and about or just on the laptop. I'm into a bit of everything really from post-rock to indie folk, modern progressive rock, hipster indie dance or even a bit of classical. I've looked around so far and seen a pair called SoundMagic E10s for around £35 and the general consensus seems to be that the sound is close to some of the higher priced products on the market.

I certainly wouldn't pay more than £25 for a pair of headphones to listen to MP3's.
Those CX300's are as good as anything.

I recently purchased some Phonak 012's for quite a bit more than £25 and they are absolutely superb and miles better than an off the shelf pair of Sennheisers. The bass is beautiful and they are more comfortable than any pair of earphones I've ever had before. And they completely cancel out the noise of the train without annoying everyone around me, as you can't hear them at all. I was impressed with the last pair of Shure's that I bought from a reccomendation on here, but these have blew them out of the water.

And in that price range you'll get better quality, those two you mentioned are hardly in the OP's price range though.

Just managed to find the E10s for £20 on a website called Focalprice (seems legit enough, although delivery can take a bit longer). Only a fiver more than I paid for the last ones so I'll give them a go.
I saw those Phonaks on a website I was on, but the £80 price tag put me off though!

I've just got my wife a kindle. I looked at what she reads and looked if they were available in e-book/kindle format at WHSmiths, Amazon etc. Kindle was the best option for her.

| Needs some advice.
Got grandkids from two separate households, we want to buy a games console for our house for when they come to stay, but would like to get use ourselves (not playing games, but internet, playing DVD;s etc). One lot have Xbox at home the other PS3, what are the pro's and cons of each.
Ta in advance.

This comes up regularly in terms of their pros and cons as gaming machines (and that argument boils down to personal preference and getting the same machine as the majority of your gaming pals), but if gaming isn't really your concern (and particularly online gaming) I'd say the PS3 is the better bet. The Xbox lacks the blu ray player and doesn't have an internet browser.

| Sorry but unless you're going to invest in Blu rays, go with the Xbox as it plays DVDs admirably and even upscales them.
The games are better (for the grandkids) and online is a better experience, although it does cost around £26/year as opposed to free on PS3 (but the quality is much lower).
Also at the end of the day the Xbox (£155 from Sainburys or £200 from Amazon with a game, £15 voucher for another game and 12 months online play included) is cheaper as are the games.

I've had both consoles for a number of years and I would side with the PS3 personally. It is the more expensive of the two but the functionality is fantastic. Its great for use to access the internet via your TV. Plus if your grandkids want to play online its free

Always going to stir up a bit of debate as you will always get die-hard "fanboys" for each console.
If it's for pure gaming then the XBox is the superior console. The online gaming is much better, although you have to pay for it. The Kinect motion system is greatly superior to the Playstation Move. It's had well publicised reliability problems in the past however these seemed to been rectified in the newer consoles.
The PS3 is a better all round console, it's able to play DVDs or standard and 3D Blu-Rays if you want to watch films in HD or 3D (provided you've got a 3D TV). Online gaming is free although not anywhere near as good as XBox live and the Playstation network has been hacked in the past. It has an internet browser although navigating and searching isn't the quickest with a controller. The catch-up tv services like BBC iplayer are relatively simple to use though and accessible directly through the console's home screen. It is however more expensive than the XBox.
