As an Argentinian his voice will be more than heard my the majority of South Americans plus millions of others throughout the world. If he chose to get politically involved over The Falklands I would suggest the UK's position could become untenable. Do I think the Pope would get involved? No. But it remains an outside possiblity.

The islands are ours and nothing will change that and both sides cannot be dragged to talks about it.

Why?
How much respect or power do you think the US's little poodle carries nowdays in Europe or more importantly on the global stage?
Nowhere near as much as empirical little Englanders like you may believe.

Well, it could have been for any number of reasons.
A nutter did it because the voices told him to do it.
A Catholic did it because they were trapped in poverty by the number of kids they begat.
An atheist did it because they were godless.
An agnostic did it, just to be certain about something.
A Calvinist did it but it was predestined by God ... so God may or may not forgive them depending upon, inter alia, whether they repent doing the thing that they were predestined to do.
Or ...
He just died.

Pretty much every South American and anyone of Hispanic descent supports the Argentine claim anyway. Britain's voice is in the minority where the Falklands is concerned. Cos no-one likes us. There's a grain of truth to that.
IF he decided to speak out South Americans would hold demonstrations and make a big noise, but I'd like to think the UK would hold their firm line having just carried out fair democratic process for all the world to see. I'd also hope Papal advisors would be telling him to stay out of it.

As much as many, more than most and less than only a few. And nowhere near as feeble as many would love to believe.

Allegedly...
"In God's Name" is a fascinating book, even if it may not be 100% true (and I'm not saying it is or isn't).

| I know for a fact that a big percentage of the people that live there today are from south america, only young kids/adults why they didnt vote i dont know. i think perhaps Argentina might be sneeking in through the back door with this one and in generations to come there wont be much of a british ethnic presence in the falklands anymore and might shift the tides politically. The Island has an older polpulation where the kids go for there education in England or south America, I must admit its the most depressing place i have ever been to ( and i come from wakefield), i cant honestly see what the great big fuss is with the place.

Tony Blair was thinking about making a come back into politics a short while back. He quite recently converted to Catholicism........it's all a set up.

I see she is requesting a dialogue about it.
She must know that, as ownership of the "Malvinas" is part of the Argentinian constitution, such a dialogue cannot be a negotiation over ownership.
So, what it is she doing?
Keeping the electorate onside by focusing on an external enemy, that's what.

| Did anyone hear Alicia Castroon on radio 4 last night?
When asked if she wanted to live on the islands, she replied no but some do. When asked why they do she couldn't answer except go into a rehed spiel about oil and fish. They’re not bothered about the people or the islands themselves, just the resources. Shouldn't the inhabitants come first in any negotiations?
When do the native argentinian people get their land back?
