| do you have a recent version of Nero, Power Director or similar software package that can convert video formats? if not you could download a trial copy or look for a freeware solution. knowing the format of the footage (i.e. file extension) would help.

| Quote ="Phil O'Stein"Thanks for the comments.
The situation is that I recently took my daughter to Florida and filmed things on a HD handheld. I've now been asked by both grandparents of daughter if they can have the footage on DVD so I need to get the footage onto a format that they can play through their standard DVD. I've no intention of downgrading the footage, I just want to create copies of the footage in a definition friendly to their DVD players.
Again, I can't express just how clueless I am on these matters.'"
The only thing to worry about there is the size of the video files. If it's larger than 4.7GB (assuming it's single layer DVD) then you'd need to compress the file, if not just burn it as a playable DVD using writer software such as Nero.

| Anyone know of some good laptop deals?
My Grandma is chasing one, upto £250. Obviously doesn't have to be high spec. Just dont know whether to go for something like an Advent/eMachines etc as she is only just starting her lessons. A decent refurb one under £200 would be ideal too.
Thanks in advance.

Depending on her eyesight, have a look at some of the netbooks.

| Was it from Hotmail by any chance? Spam like emails? If it is Hotmail the best thing to do is to move to Gmail. Failing that change your password. If your sure it's not mates (who've say used your computer when you've left your email signed in) it wouldn't do any harm to run malware bytes on your computer.

It was from Yahoo email. They were spam like emails that were sent all within 2 minutes or so and no-one knows my password as it's a work PC that I was using.

I take it these emails were sent to people on your contact list within Yahoo?
If you only access the account from your work computer, get the works IT guys to have a look at the computer, tell them you think it has some malware on it. If you do access your account from other places, say at home, then run malware bytes on those machines just to check they're clean.
Yes apparently Gmail had an issue with losing some mail which affect .29% of users and there are several statements which reduce that number as the mail was restored within 12 hours. At least it if it was Hotmail or Yahoo they wouldn't tell you and both providers like to 'black hole' incoming mail and you'd be none the wiser.

The emails were sent to those on my contacts list. I'll let the IT guys at work know about the problem and let them have a look at the PC when I'm back tomorrow. I don't know how to run malware bytes on my own PC as I leave the security stuff to my Norton anti-virus program. I hope that my sister is one of those that have got there emails back as I would not like to have had that happened to me. Thanks very much for your help.

It's possible they didn't actually come from you; if someone else has some nasty software installed on their computer, it can look at the email addresses in [itheir[/i address book - and send out spam which looks like it came from one of those email addresses (it's easy enough to spoof that).
If there are common email addresses in both their address book and yours, which is quite often the case, then people in your address book may get emails from nasty software which has infected [ithe other person[/i, and just [ilooks like it came from you[/i because the nasty software found your email address in their address book and used it as the "reply to" address (or whatever).
Get your work IT bods to take a look. They could easily check the IP address / mail server trail on the email headers or something to see whether they actually [idid[/i come from your computer?

| Decided that I hate iTunes again. I've just added some music to my iTunes library and synced the iPod and the new music is on there but with no album artwork. So I went back onto my library (to change the names to, as I had the annoying separation on my iPod of "R.E.M" and "R.E.M. ", and when I went on to the library the albums weren't showing up, yet when I went on to the recently added playlist they were all there. Any idea of what I can do?

Hand edit the ID tags on the files, right click on them and choose get info, go to the info tab and adjust there.

I considered that but, but the chances of using his email address and sending an email to his contacts has to be statistically unlikely without account access in some form. I'm well aware how easy it is to send out forged mail, that's why decent ESPs should use things like DKIMs and rDNS lookups.

I reckon it's not uncommon for groups of people who know each other to have overlaps in their address books. Seems pretty likely to me, in fact.
Hopefully he'll get to the bottom of it!

Either there or the music folder, you are editing the files so it will show up in all places.

Not sure if it's the right thread, but you generally get a lot of people asking for cheap laptops. I've just picked up this laptop in Tesco for £179 (10% off due to bird's discount made it £161):
direct.tesco.com/q/R.211-6105.aspx
That's it on Direct, like. Just a heads up in case anybody is after a cheap laptop, a few notebooks were in the sale as well (Toshiba one for £99 and a couple of Dells for £129).

Likely an ex-display model if it was picked up in store, it is the time of year Tesco swap out the display items.

Nah, it was brand new mate. They were going so cheap because they'd been taken off display and were sat in the back.
It's still on Tesco Direct (separate from in-store) at £399, but the one I got was brand new, in the box with the warranty seal over the opening.
You're right about the price though, many Tesco are changing the layout of their stores, especially the electrical bit, and many are getting new laptops in for Christmas, so the ones they currently have that won't ever be put back on display will just reduce in price drastically.
